If we could get enough interest, we could have one with the new Polo boys. That would be an interesting day...

You definitely can't use the standard calipers with 312mm discs. Have larger calipers coming during the week from a fellow forum member so no biggie there.

Rear big brake OEM 280mm discs from ECS went on a treat, although had to take off the backing plate. Is that much of a problem?
any difference on the rear brake feel? i take it you installed this kit? Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Braking > Big Brake OEM > ES#205359 Rear Rotor Upgrade Kit - 280mm (11") - EBK698280G/J4RE

the backing plates are there to protect from debris and such, but i don't think removing them would be much of an issue though. why did you have to remove them?

Haven't driven the car with them yet... Got another car from work for the moment so just left the polo at the mechanics till the calipers have arrived and are fitted.

That is the kit I fitted. The backing plate was basically just getting in the way of the larger discs so had to go apparently. Got a call about it from the mechanic on saturday so just trusted his judgement that it had to go.

Looking forward to testing out the new brake set up this weekend when its all completed

    Damn straight I am. :p

Readjusted my rear sway today. Over time it moves around a bit.

I really don't see the point in going to a 280mm rear brake with the factory caliper. all you are doing is increasing unsprung weight, it will improve cooling of the system slightly and with the caliper biting further out on the disc it will slightly improve efficiency but for a car with most of the weight over the front it seems pointless.

Anyway not what I have done today but over the last few weeks.

Gutted interior, fitted Cobra Imola Pro Bucket Seat, got the car back from the panel beaters then one week later it got hailed on again, few small tiny dints that you can barely notice but so annoyed.

Besides that I am looking at finding some time to fit the Audi TT setup on the front, then getting the roll cage fitted, when that will happen I have no idea, but soon hopefully, then its time to order the KMAC tops and the Darkside Development Big Turbo kit.

It is undoubtedly overkill considering the way I drive (mostly commuting, with the occasional spirited drive up or down the coast and a track day here and there in future).

To be honest my reasons for upgrading the rears as much aesthetic as anything else. The rear discs just look embarrassingly small compared to the 312s so with the larger discs up back it looks more balanced. I'm sure there will be a small difference in performance as well which wont hurt, although no doubt most of the braking improvement I get out of this will be from the changes up front
