What did you do to your Polo today?

Yeah I have an MK4...

The quote I got from a dealer was indeed ridiculous. $1200+ for the timing belt kit including labour, plus another $850 to change the brake pads (!!!), $600 for a standard service, $700 to change the radiator.... you get the picture. PLUS that was when the car still only have 90,000km on the clock (has 105,000km now)

I told them to get bent, acquired the parts from Jmac and got it serviced by Stephen in Abbotsford (both found through this forum) and got it all done including parts and labour for less than half that price.

In short, unless you are under warranty and want the log books all done at the same dealer for warranty purposes, I simply see no reason to ever set foot in a dealer's service centre.

Not only do you pay an arm and a leg and maybe your 1st child as well, you also on the odd occasion get to walk out with the priveledge of having your car scratched too. Great service eh?

Soooooo... i took my VW Polo GTI into an inspection at Denlo Service Parramatta this morning to hopefully cure the gearbox which many know is fkd lol.

Sadly, they did not replace anything. However, the fella "Don" told me that they did a TPI on the car (no idea what that is), changed the gearbox oil and re-tuned the car to some new ECU settings. They also said that the car had a recall notice for this ECU remap. (which probably means my APR programmings are goneski but i dont care as long as the gearbox doesnt crunch)

On the way home, I drove normally of course but attempted to shift 1 to 2 at around 5000rpm doing a quick gear shift. I thought it would definitely crunch. But to my surprise it shifted beautifully. (fingers are crossed, touch wood, that it would stay like this.) Hopefully a 2000-4000rpm quick shift won't crunch...that'll be enough to keep me happy. =). The Denlo fella told me that if in a week or so and the problems return, VW Denlo will continue to investigate the case for me.

In regards to the window Seal, Denlo is ordering a new seal for me from Singapore with an ETA of 4 weeks rofl....which means for 4 weeks i cant operate the passenger electric window or else the existing seal will fall out.

So I got back from my 2 month world trip on Saturday, so to get myself reacquainted with my car, I went for a 700km drive...So worth it!!! I really don't want to go back to work tomorrow...

Oh, while I was in the USA, I got myself a boost gauge, and ordered myself a holder the other night, so I should have it fitted by the end of the week...

Damned end tank was leaking... Pretty severely upon inspecting it!

It's a fairly common problem

changed my oil!

Did the N249 bypass and the 42DD shift bushings today.

Shift bushings helped the shift feel a little more accurate, but the difference in fairly minute.

N249 bypass has made a big difference, the turbo is coming on boost slightly sooner and slightly harder (I'm now hitting the full 21psi of my GIAC everytime I come on boost, where as before peak would hover between 19-21psi and it wasn't consistent which peak i'd get at any given time in any given gear)
