I've had the H&R's for about 2 months (only had the car for about 10 weeks).
Without the matched shocks, the ride can feel a little floaty (hard for me to tell, but probably feels like stock again) at some speeds (70ish kms), but otherwise is pretty good.
I don't think this setup is ideal for handling, but for slightly improved handling and a much cleaner look on a budget, I'd do it again.
Since I've had the car, the whole front end has become noisy (squeaks and creaks), not sure if its just the more rigid ride, or the way I've driven it...
If you're budget will extend, the Bilsten shocks or Koni kits are a good setup from all reports.
Thanks, noone.
I love how the stock GTI handles personally, but obviously, I haven't had much to compare it to, so if the H&R springs don't harm things too much on their own, i'd happily consider them sooner rather than later. Would they slowly take their toll on the stock shocks over time though? (forgive me if that's a silly question - not sure how these things work) Is this another reason why the Bilsten or similar shocks are recommended?
I've been told that the stock shocks may last roughly 50,000 kms, but as they fade rather than stopping outright.
The relationship between the 'rate' of the spring and the shock determines how bumps are absorbed. With the H&R's with stock springs sometimes a bump in the road can give the car a floaty effect as the car may move up and down more than with the stock setup. As the shocks and springs don't match when you swap the springs or shocks only.
Its not bad, but again, if you have the extra $1200ish for the shocks, a good way to go to get the best out of your vehicle. I have been told this setup can be a little rigid for daily use on rough roads.
I'm NO expert, would recommend trying to find someone in your area who was had this done.
put black tail lights in ;)
pics or ban, josh!!!!!
i've been thinking about that- blackened tail lights and gti fronts.
the pics thread that noone started, i think? had alot of pogs in my color (tosca blue) and blacked out lights/ gti lights made a very, very nice difference.
I only have the HR springs and the seat strut brace.
I cant give you yet an impression on how the HR springs compare to the stock, because I've just installed them and didn't drove the car too much after that...
And also I need to realign the wheels... after that I'll take the Polo on a mountain road :D to see how it feels
Today i clocked 10,000km on my car!! :)
