    Thanks Rhys.

Those tyres look awesome. How long have you been running them for now? What's the wet traction like?

    Cheers,

I went to my local Jax QuickFit to enquire about the Marangoni's as I've read a bit about them here. Not only do they look awesome, but apparently quieter than the Contis.

I asked the guy about them and he laughed... "Quiet? Compared to an RE001 they're quiet, yes. Stick with the Contis."

Even Bob Jane/Bridgestone and Tyre Power in my area all consider the Conti to be far superior as far as comfort/road noise in concerned.

    So.... someone is BSing me.

Contis cost more ... and have softer sidewalls. I've had both and prefer the Marangonis.

contis are a dealer favourite cos they cost more... i would trust 1st hand reviews from fellow polo drivers than a tyre dealer

I have Kuhmo ecsta i think there called on mine. Havent had any issues. Grippier in a straight line then my michelins. and havent tested twisty stuff yet. I actually have to change my post in the tyre thread as although the michelins are better in the twisties they dont grip as well off the line. imo the michelins arent as good in the wet either. Having said that i wont get contis again.

And as for that tyre thread i cant edit it and delete the chit chat as i didnt want any when i created it.(any mods care to clean it) As that was intended to give anyone info on tyres been run on polos of any rim diameter.

I have Bridgestone Adrenalins in 17's 205/40s -- happy with these, relative to the Contis, or the Farken ST615s I had first on 17s. I don't think 215s would cause a problem and I'll certainly try them next time.

i have been running them for about 2,500kms now and wet traction is great....a hell of a lot better than the Toyo Proxes T1R's i was running. obviously if you give it a full punch launch in the wet you will get spin but i can still give it a fair bit and they will hold on. going around a roundabout (or 'circle' for you south africans) in the wet on the Toyo's was like flipping a coin for my life, it scared the poo out of me. the Marangoni's in the wet have far superior cornering abilities which i love, and feel a lot safer. i have done a few dry mountain runs under good throttle and they are exceptional in the twisties - no understeer and no tyre screech, just pure grip.

the boys at the tyre shops refer the the Continentals as a superior performance tyre because of the cars they are put on out of the factory.
as said before, the dealers will try to sell you the more expensive tyre all day. when trying to buy the Marangoni's the guy at Jax was trying to point me to a more expensive mainstream brand tyre (not necessarily better). i made it a point that i wanted the Marangoni's (thanks to dave) and he was saying that he didn't know how they performed so he was uncomfortable selling them without the knowledge.

when they were fitted he asked me to call him in a few weeks to give him a report, he sounded excited to await my call.

i have heard the Marangoni's being compared to the Michelin Preceda PP2's as: "the Michelins are more a sports luxury tyre with a lot of focus of comfort whereas the Marangoni's are a true performance tyre".

most importantly, as for road noise....i am not exaggerating when i say they are pretty much inaudible. i have been in a bucketload of both sports and luxury cars with awesome tyres and i'm confident in saying that these are the quietest. yes, it's a big call, but i'll say it and i'm sure dave will back me up.

    Sorry to blabber on

    Cheers,
    Rhys
