WA Polo GTi 2006 re. Statutory Warranty

Hi guys, New member from Perth here. I've just purchased a 06 Polo GTi. Now just a week after collecting, I've noticed that there are several issues. First, there is a warning on the dash in regards to the water coolant. It'll stay on until the engine is nice and warm. Then I'd turn the car off and on to make it disappear. Most of the time it does. Problem has been pinpointed to the water coolant bottle and a faulty sensor. Next the terminal above the battery had some shorts and melted some plastic off. Caused me to lose power from traction control to ABS and finally steering. Had a temporary fix thanks to Philip @ Euro Tuning Balcatta. And finally I noticed that the front tyre has a noticeable bulge. Is that roadworthy/safe? Are tyres supposed to sold roadworthy and therefore claimable? So within the first week of purchase from the dealership, what should my course of action be when I call and try claim statutory warranty tomorrow? Do I get the money I spent for calling the mechanic out at 10pm to fix the car? Thanks. Jun Yip

In most cases, the issuer of the statutory warranty will only cover the costs if they perform the diagnosis and repairs.

If done outside their business hours, would I have a case to argue? It was either to tow my car away w insurance or to fix it so I can drive over the weekend.

You may have been reimbursed for the tow and hire car.

Worth looking at the PDS with the stat warranty.

Well turns out, anything that has to be done must be authorised by the insurance company. Unless its after they close. Then it's all on you. Seems to put us at quite a disadvantage.

If you have only had it for a week take it back to the dealer and talk to them about it. Was it sold with a warranty of some sort or did you get talked into something else.

I would be kicking the dealers door down'

If it was sold registered and with a roadworthy the tire should have been replaced I wouldnt drive around the corner if it is bulging anywhere as it could blow out at any time

^^^ There's a 3 month statutory warranty on cars sold by dealerships over here. Not sure what the case is in other states.

If the car broke down and I took it elsewhere to get diagnosed/repaired, irrespective of the time of day it happened, I wouldn't expect the dealer to reimburse me for those repairs. You've not given them the opportunity to fix it at their own cost.

WRT the tyre I doubt you'll get anywhere. The time to raise that sort of issue would be at pre-purchase/handover, then there is no arguing that the issue was there when the car was sold.

Exactly what he said ^. What makes me pissy is that they have opening hours from monday to friday, 9 to 5. Which really means that anytime outside of that, I have no opportunity to talk to them. Regarding the dealers, they just told me they don't deal with warranty.

Tyres looked fine during purchase. My reasoning behind that is because they left the tyres at 25 PSI. When I went for the recommended 37/35 PSI, that is when the bubble showed up. At 25PSI the tyres looked wrinkly lol.
