Hoping for a bit of help from any VAG-COM experts.
I managed to get my ebay KKL cable working with the 409.1 version that came with it. Problem is it would only log groups 001-025 but nothing juicy like 115 or 118 where I could look at boost etc - always coming up with an error saying that it wasn't registered and needed an activation key. I'd read that this version can be touchy on windows 7 so instead got my hands on VCDS lite with the same results.
Am I missing something simple in the settings or does all this point to the cable?

I've got an ebay cable and just last week bought the activation codes for vcds lite - it all works a treat. If I recall correctly (having only played around with it once so far), you can't get the 118 code, but can get 115. 118 is exhaust temp which our cars don't have.
Without the activation codes I could only access a few of the logging parameters, but not enough for anything useful.
I assuming your cable drivers are correct, so the ebay cable can read engine faults?
The activation of lite cost ~$130 given the current exchange rate.

Is 115 the actual and required boost log? Yeah drivers are ok as it communicates - I'm just blocked from certain logs. Mine will do 001-024 which takes in MAF, coolant and intake temps, ignition timing and misfire counters but I think excludes timing pull, boost and fueling. Was VCDS lite from rosstech $100?
Yup, purchased through the ross tech store - Ross-Tech Store: VCDS-Lite Software Registration (Pre-2006; K-Line - No CAN). Include your VIN when you submit the purchase as they asked me for it to valid it'd work for my car/s.
Sorry I can't help on the logging blocks of the shareware version, I didn't get the info I needed from it so had to purchase. Dare I say you could get much the same info from a Bluetooth OBD logger from ebay and ran through your phone. I just preferred to do it once and know I have more freedom. I have tried an Bluetooth obd, but it lacked giving me the lamba data I was after if I recall correctly - that's going back 6 months and didn't look into it much further.

115 has requested and actual boost.
118 has intake temp, boost and N75 duty cycle.
112 is EGT if the car is equipped with it.
