I don't know much about the V-checker.
The vag-com cable can do this and a lot more... Just in case you did not know.
I want to get one to identify my fault codes, but am confused. My apology for appearing niave, but after searching the forum and ebay, I need to know:
- Which v-checker to buy - they all seem to be Chinese made and appear identical, but the prices vary wildly on ebay (from about $A50 to $A110 delivered). Are they really all the same?
- What do CAN-BUS and OBD2 mean in this context?
- Is any other hardware necessary to connect to the Polo port?
Thanks in advance, guys, and any other comment/experience about v-checker or its usefulness appreciated.

If you want to know a lot more about it send a pm to Fuzion .. he was selling them at one stage and should be able to help you out.
I have a VChecker Pro (v-checker VW/AUDI ENGLISH version) purchased it through Fuzion ... until yesterday hadn't played with it at all ... lazy and always wait until I am in need before attempting to work it out
Anyways, it is simple enough to use, I was able to read and clear a code, plug and play very simple.
Yes u want the v-checker pro not the basic. Pro allows u to read and erase codes. The only thing vchecker cant do is datalogging which can be useful. Alternative is to buy a $30 ebay cable and get the vcds lite license for $99 from rosstech and run it from a laptop. Ive got both and using the laptop is much more friendlier but i carry my vchecker in my car.
As for CANbus and all that, ur car isnt one and u can use the vchecker. For mk5 cars and later u need the proper rosstech cable to do anything and its not cheap if ur only gonna use it every now and then.
