    upgrading turbo..

Maybe this question has been asked, but

is the K04 similar to gt28rs

What else of the engine needs to be upgraded when upgrading the turbo?

Anything bigger than a K03s will require a bigger MAF, injectors, fuel pump. You will probably need a downpipe, exhaust and FMIC if you don't have one already. If you want more than 300hp, you should be looking at rods.

You need someone to tune it too. I can help there.

If you go with the GT, does it bolt up in place of the K0 series or do you need pipes and a manifold too.

Then there's the question of brakes and traction.

May not answer all your q's, but have a look at Plautos' thread. He is in the middle of putting a gt28rs on his polo.

You dont "need" a bigger MAF . Ive done a few cars with small mafs , there are mafless files as well , the polo runs wideband so they are readily available . Injectors you would upgrade depending on how far you went . To max out a gt28rs around 440cc would be enough . You can run the 317's @ 4 bar and limit the boost if $ is an issue . Fuel pump is fine . I was running a gt2871r for a long time on stock pump without issues .
350-400hp is the limit for rods so a gt28rs is within the safe zone . Your more likely to need piston rings as they will wear considerably faster

the gt28rs is probably the next size turbo up from the ko4 off the S3 . Not a huge deal bigger but enough to warrant a stronger clutch . But this all dependant on your tune !

as above , the eastest route is k04 its a direct bolt on . however youll only see about 20 extra peak hp. that said the k04 distributes its power over a brouder rev range carrying extra boost and power right the way to red line , unlike the ko3s. the gt28rs gives you more power then a k04 but youve got to get a new manifold and a bit of fabrication. this site is really nice if you want a few more options and ideas.(they also sell the manifold your after if you go gt28rs ) http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/category/61/turbos if you want a lil of both worlds they also create a k04 hybrid which is direct bolt on and gets more hp then your average k04 -001. the biggest bug bear as other have mentioned is wheel spin which highly tuned pogs seem to suffer from (mainly because there front wheel drive and you just cant get big enough rubber under them legally). one final thing you should maybe think about is the way both turbos distribute there power . KKK type turbos from what ive scene on dyno charts is that they come on in the 2000-3000 rev range and tend to run out of steam round the 5300-6500 rev range . (lesser being the smaller turbos in the range) this is good if you have all wheel drive cos you can get that rush of power straight of the bat when launching. however the pog only has front wheel drive , and hence wheel spin. the gt28rs dynos that ive scene seem to come on round the same time but have a much steadyer power curb (instead of getting it all at once ) which "may" help a lil with the pogs wheel spin a lil. (time will tell once plautos gets his absalute weapon of a pog up and running) anyway hope i didnt ramble too much and by all means peeps correct me if im wrong.
