Apparently they purchased a few of them for doing the Macca's drive thru meal runs, much easier to handle through the twisty bits

They use it for Community liason work and also for call-outs to petty crime stuff .... too many narrow streets in that area so it helps them get around ... push bikes would be cheaper though.

just use a freakin' horse. it will be cheaper (initial and on-going costs), go faster, better looking, and fit down even narrower streets.... even chase thieves through shopping malls.

Nah man...Cops source their cars direct from the dealer like any other government fleet car(I helped with this when I was working at NT Police Workshops in Darwin). They would never import from another country, but would source another car to better suit the job at hand.
NT Police also use maked Nissan Tida's for community liason also. NSW Police were also using a marked Lotus Exise for Hoon Liason for a while too.
I have seen Wodonga Police in Victoria use a Ford Falcon XT Ute as an undercover car in their Highway Patrol too. (In a Spanish voice)Do not underestimate their sneakiness!!!

Why wouldn't they? Wasting our money whilst at the same time raking in revenue makes perfect sense when you realise that it's dimwitted scumbags and useless pencil pushers who make the rules.
