is it meant to warn me if I have a flat tyre?
Yes, the monitor uses the data feed from your ABS sensors to check the rotation and rolling circumference of each wheel. If the rolling circumference changes then your monitor will display a warning to you. This includes if your tyre pressure increases (in the case of overloading) or decreases (lost of pressure = flat tyre).
It will not tell you which tyre is a problem you will need to check each tyre yourself.

The light on the dash comes on if you have lost pressure in one, but major blowouts don't seem to show but it has been narrowed down to 'you haven't driven far enough for the system to realise it's blown'.
Do a search for 'tyre pressure indicator' or similar, there's a long thread about it.

ok thanks for the info guys
just that i had a shredded tyre today and no light came on
i will search for that thread thanks!
search gimmick as i know thts what i put in the title of the thread. and if your cars new maybe it wassnt set in the first place. I thought it was a gimmick but its not as its save my butt a couple of times. The first time my brother hit a rather large rock which punctured it and it didnt set it off. I wonder how many rotations of the wheel it needs for it to react and respond as this is the only reason i can think of it not doing anything as it would have lost air pressure really quick. Not sure if this is the same for you???
When you go to set it put it in ignition (not actually starting the car) wait for all the beeps and what not and then press and hold the set button in centre consol. You will then hear an auible beep and this means its set. I would check tire presure on all wheels before doing this.
so will tyre pressure be set when i get my new car in 2wks time? or i have to preset it?
I think if you need a computer to tell you you have a blow out, you've got more problems then the pressure monitor not working
