I have been buying up some stuff, and I an now starting to look at turbos, again for my 9n3 pog.
I have done some research, but I thought I would put it out to you guys as well
The debate is between the frankenturbo, k04 or the GT28RS.
Pros and cons on all three.

That's the concern I have...the gt seems awesome, and certain companies like revo claim they got it down pat and very safely, yet others say this is too big, and will necessitate an engine rebuild very soon...hearing so much mixed messages...that's why it good to get unbiased comments from you all
GT28 is not really that big
Another good option a bit smaller is the IHI turbo, can be found on WRX's

I would suggest a Franken or JBS04 with E85 tune. That way no lag and even more power than the garrett and safe for the engine. Although rods would be a great idea. Stock position for your new 3" DP too

As you may have seen from another thread, I'd estimate the cost of a new K04 install at 2-3k
A hybrid turbo would run 3-5k
A BT would run 4-10k
Very loose numbers
A few things to keep in mind are when the power is going to be used and how to get it down. I've found a lot more traction with coil overs, wider wheels, better tyres and sway bars. I think if you wanted big power a LSD is going to be very worth while.
There are a many supporting mods that accompany the turbo itself, the estimates above factor in some of these parts.
If you have not read the BT build on Polo UK forum or Badgers custom hybrid tread for his Lupo, might give some insight as to what is possible.
Our resident VW specialist (JMac) told me to steer clear of anything larger than a K04 untill I'm ready for an engine rebuild .... Whilst we have a 1.8 20V T, not all 1.8 20V Ts were created equal ..... VW skimped on the internals on the BJX a bit apparently. (Also the reason any dyno of a MK4 GTI with bigger turbo is pointless as a comparison as the MK4 had a "better" engine)
So if you want to go larger than a K04 in a Polo, get ready to spend $$$ on strenghtened internals.
Hence the reason I'm going K04 1st and then later larger when the car has done enough kms to warrant a full rebuild on the engine and internals. Forged pistons, rods and other bits need to be upgraded to run a GT reliably for more than a few 1000 kms.
I beleieve a K04 can be had, installed for less than $2500 including software ...... With other mods I'm expecting 160kw atw then. Problem is that is the level where clucth and other drivetrain components need to be done as well.

If you can pick up the parts for less than $1300, you're doing well (assuming only a snail and fuel reg). Tunes start at around $750, this leaves a few hundred for install, sounds pretty reasonable. Probably not a huge job, it's supposed to be a 'straight swap'.
