    Timing belt

Hi people, i dont normally post up about the obvious every day reocurring stuff, you guys keep that well covered. This one is a must and take heed. if you like me use timing belt kits from VW, although they really are good and can be quite cost effective, normally the Hydraulic dampner gets missed from the kit and is an extra item. Now , i cant stress enough the importance of it and the changing of it at the timing belt period, yes it adds to the cost but believe me worth the extra $150 or so, i use it every time so my customers dont worry.
Today i checked a vehicle at a place nameless and the timing belt had been done along with the obligitory tensioner and even water pump but didnt replace the hydraulic dampner. the new belt being new and strong and taut put new tensioner and the dampner lost pressure on start up the result a jumped belt and bent valves!!!!!! Please include it in your kits.
Said engine is a 1.8T Golf
$150 or new engine , you choose
    Cheers
Wasnt a pleasant one to diagnose

Hard one that Ryan, Well for me to say that is. I have my views but wont incase. All i can say is the car drove in for a routine Tbelt change. im sure you can understand the diplomatic answer.

Just recapping the drama wasnt the timing belt that was done at the right time, dampner wasnt and oops. Same goes for the water pump crazy not to change it for a good couple of reasons, good chance if you dont you will need to some time so its the whole job all over, and the second reasoin is its only 3 more bolts and you are done. This way the coolant is renewed too.
    All good
