To be fair, the quality absolutely burys the holdens and fords, the steering is a million times better, but they are not cars for horsepower hero's.

They are enough, doesnt matter what car I owned I would be bitchin about it in some way.

    These cars are tops..
dont get me wrong they arent big HP cars, but they can be

there are blokes in the US that daily drive 600hp Mk4 GTI's!!!! (tell me that wouldnt be bonkers fun!)

also there is a bloke in South America(?) who has a 20v (same engine as yours) doing an 8 sec quater in a FWD layout

its all about how much money you want to spend. (you of all people should know that with you previous cars )

so all in all mate, dare to be different and make it a big HP car. You'd certainly be the first in Aus to have a truly bonkers Polo GTI

Frankly I dont get the obsession with HP.

Is it a **** size thing? Mine has more than yours?

Why would you possibly want more than 150 - 170kw in a Polo if you largely drive it on the street?

To make a steetable, 4cyl hatch daily driver more fun I'd be looking at suspension, brakes, steering then HP in that order.

If HUGE HP is your thing, why would you buy a Polo?

Too much power is never enough give me a 400hp Polo anyday and I'd daily drive it, why not, lifes too short to be conservative!

no its not a genital size thing, its just an obsession....

but true, sort the chassis then chase power, because power without poise is wasted

i think the reason that not many people would spend too much on a big big hp polo is because it'd be too hard to get all that power down to the ground, and also, after people have sorted mods (e.g. suspension, fmic, exhaust, k04) they'd probably start spending more of their money to track it more frequently, get cams licenses and compete in hillclimb events etc etc? i know i would.

i love my pog as is, but say, 500nm torque would be innnnnnsssssaaaaaane (that'd probably only be like 180hp or so though in a diesel, lol).

is body work that expensive?? can't you just flare your wheel aches and fit bigger rubber under there?

Beyond a point more rubber = less down pressure per sq inch = less grip. Mate of mine is pulling 150KW or something at the wheels in his Polo, and once it's moving it's (mostly) ok, but traction is an issue - the car is simply light and fwd. Two strikes....

If that's Shane, he would like to think he has that much power

Off topic, I was talking to Shane last night and realised I know you from OzMazdaClub - small world!

Just about every sort of performance car runs a flat 14 these days.

What would a K04 bring the little polo into? Would it crack a 13.5? Me thinks not.

I know you guys only weigh circa 1200kg, but 13.5 on a K04 with a generic map etc? for real?
What does a chipped GTI run?

Max a K04-023 (for transverse) will flow is about 260-270chp and a massive torque spike in your low rev range. APR only gives you a 15psi map. People run them up to 18-20psi time and time again.
KKK turbos have good torque spike where you DON't race but daily drive/commute.
