I owned one before my 3 MPS. Because of it's VVTI set up the power was only available after 5000-7500rpm when lift kicked in. It had no torque and even with heaps of mods would be no match for a chipped Polo as they are painfully slow until you hit lift. Some guys went to the extreme of a piggy back ECU to lower lift to kick in at 4500rpm from memory and blew the engine. The Yamaha 2zz engines are worth $13000 and are also found in the Lotus Elise. They sound great but unless you have a very light car like the Lotus the engine is not as attractive as it sounds with 141kw.

Not many little cars (non turbo) with any sort of low down torque.

The Polo Gti is more than enough for our roads. But a 14 second quarter mile which a modded polo is capable of isnt exactly worth bragging about..

Just about every sort of performance car runs a flat 14 these days.

What would a K04 bring the little polo into? Would it crack a 13.5? Me thinks not.

Hey VWwindahouse...hows the POLO Gti vs. the 3 MPS you had?

The point im trying to make is that these Polo Gti's are nice little cars but Im sort of unsure if they are quick enough to keep us happy.
I think most of us are happy. I doubt there are too many on these boards who bought a Polo GTI, Golf GTI, R32, etc without knowing there were drawbacks over other cars. Every car has some "thing" that will bug you. For instance the XR6 is renowned for a myriad of technical problems. If you really aren't happy with the performance I'd question what were you thinking during and after the test drive (did you test drive one?) and what you really expected you could get out of it modified.

For me it's a good fun car to drive ... and it ticked the right boxes for me.
    - Good power/torque for the weight.
    - 3 doors.
    - A bit different. I don't see hundreds around, it's a sleeper. My old Swift GTi drew far too much attention (usually the wrong sought) and that bored me after a while.
    - A fun little package to run around the streets in with the odd track day.

It is what it is, like a mate who owned a modded WRX and was surprised at the attention it drew from the police .... you just have to be realistic and look at the pros/cons, if it isn't the car for you then so be it.

Yep pretty much the same for me. Haven't had any problems at all with attracting police attention. Generally the imports and wrx's beside me are the ones that get pulled over/noticed. Other than that, its got very good features for the price, is well built and has 3 doors so I've got an excuse for not taking people in the back too often. The car's got enough power to have fun with on the streets without it being overwhelming or a complete waste (i.e. usable power).

All Im saying is that jumping in a polo GTi you quickly miss what the other cars are capable of. The Polo Gti drives nice but its just not as entertaining as the other cars ive owned. When you sell high performance cars, you quickly miss them and the Polo Gti is not satisfying the petroleum in my blood.

For those who dont get it have never owned quick cars. For those who talk about being quick round corners ditto.
First of all, You started this thread "Are these cars fast enough??" meaning you already had formed an opinion that they perhaps aren't fast enough compared to your old XR6T. posting up a title like this will get you many replies, as will posting a title perhaps like this: "My old XR6T was faster than my Polo GTI." What did you think would happen? Cars are all relative to equipment and price. 110 standard KW and all the safety for $26K new is good value, as is the XR6T (especially the new one for the money).

Second, you have no way of knowing what other people have driven in their lifetime.

    So...

"Are these Cars Fast enough??"....I'd say Yes.
"Can these cars be faster??" ....Hell Yes.
"Is this thread a waste of space??" ....Yes.
"Have i just wasted my time writing an essay on this thread??" ....YES!

Sniff Petrol breaks my heart by being late every month.

I'm glad someone else knows of it though, I wore my Troy "Dab of Oppo" Queef shirt to a meet and no one picked up on it.

    P.S
Yeah, pointless thread. Polos are quickish but don't have 400kw. Cars with 400kw are fun, but trouble. You can only go so fast on the road. FWD has its limits etc etc etc etc.

    P.P.S
The Corolla schportivo was rated among Evo magazine's 10 worst ever cars. 206 GTI also got a mention (no VWs).
FWIW Integra Type R was the only FWD car in their top 10 ever, which included GT3, Veyron, F40, Mclaren, Integrale etc.

The MPS was awesome! 0-100 in 6.1 from factory. 380nm all delivered at 2500rpm. It pulled like a mother f**ker in every gear and was reported in wheels magazine as being faster than a BMW M3 between 80-120kms in third gear. Heaps of torque steer but the electronic limiting devices kept it semi straight when booting it. Cornering at high speed was amazing and the DSC only kicked in when you were about to eat it big time! If you have a spare hour go for a test drive at a dealership you won't get the smile off your face.

As for a comparison my chipped polo is more linear and has next to no torque steer. I don't trust the polo's ESP as much as the MPS but when I get my FMIC on and Custom Code phase II tune I am confident I will pip one in a straight line
