I got Bilstiens and H+R springs. It lowers it, but handling is fantastic.
I wouldn't recommend you change springs without changing shocks... you have to pull it all out anyway, you might as well do the full job instead of a half assed one.
I was wondering if the Gti can be lowered on the existing suspension or do you need a whole new setup or new springs?
Also does lowering improving handling like cornering or is purely for looks?
Cheers

thats if you have the money to do it all at the same time you can just run lowering springs, fair few on here have H&R ones me included not installed yet though.
only thing is your shocks will go sooner than with stock springs so eventually you'll have to buy new ones to suit the lowering springs, then there is the whole school of people that say it will be fine and they won't go sooner.
So decided what you want to belive and go from there
Yeah cheers. My car has only done 9400Kms so do you reckon the shocks are still pretty 'new'?
I've already noticed, when I just took her for a quick fang around the block, that on quick acceleration it really squats down at the rear and the whole front lifts up. That was a really strange sensation first time as it planted my back firmly into the seat. I imagine a new shock setup would help to eliminate that from occuring?
I love that surge why would you want to get rid of it!!??
I think stiffer suspension can help, but smoothing out the power delivery will help aswell so a TIP, new air filter... and heres were we reach the limits of my knowledge sorry dude sure someone else can pipe up and help somemore.
or search for "suspension" on here you'll get a fair few hits.
My brother put Eibach Pro springs on his E30 with stock shocks.
In his own words, "Your cars is F***ing amazing, I need half decent shocks."
Sort out your finance, but to change the springs is the same amount of work as changing the shocks and the springs. If you do it yourself, no probs, but if you are paying someone??
Andyeah wasn't questioning that doing both at the same time is better, it is and should be the way you do it, but on tight budget and lots of eagerness you can go springs now and start saving by the time the shocks go you'll have enough for decent shocks too....
Yeah limited budget does not help. Man If I had an endless stream of cash I'd go the whole hog and get new suspension, swaybars, FMIC, new rims & tyres etc etc. But yeah one bit at a time is about as good as its gonna get at the moment.I love that surge why would you want to get rid of it!!??
And yeah that surge was pretty dramatic but I would've thought that that sorta lunge would be counterproductive and if I had better suspension that surge would get planted down on the ground where you want all that power to go. But perhaps I am looking at wrongly?
You guys using K&N filters? OEM or High flow?
Matt - Be careful not to start a new thread talking about air filters in this one....
I have made a lot of research about suspension options...
And it seems that H&R and Eibach springs are really appreciated if you don't have enough money to go ahead with a combo directly.
But the best thing to ask to you is what do you really need ?
Springs, combo, coilovers...
Read this especially the #7 posted by GT3. I think he's right on giving answers to this suspension question.
I opted for a Bilstein shocks and H&R springs combo but i can't tell you more as i don't have them fit yet. But all guys over here say that this combo is nothing else than HAPPINESS !!
Moreover, GT3 is a good supplier of Bilsteins at a very good price.
