Suspension / cooler + exhaust questions.

Hey guys been sitting here reading about sway bars for the last few hours.

I hate the nose dive on heavy braking and how unstable it feels on a quick corner. I want to tighten it up but dont want to be losing the ass end by pushing to hard. am i doing the right thing??

Can anyone tell me the whiteline part numbers for front, rear and strut brace. My polo gtis 3 months old. and can only find 02-06 on the whiteline web site.

Now im looking at ordering a APR DP and Forge cooler. as far as i can tell the DP is about $1200 and the cooler $1100. again im happy to fit my self.

But... Has anyone in melbourne actually got a custom DP done and does it give the same effect or is the APR Out right better? I read ppl on here having custom ones done for $500. Is there anywhere in melb someone can suggest that has actually done one b4?

Cooler same deal ... I want a kit, i dont want to be welding just want a bolt up kit... Is forge my only option? I had my car flashed 3 weeks ago and the heatsoaks killing me.

Thanks again as usual ..... Mark

    g'day mark.

i cant vouch for any other options but the cooler really. but i researched a fair few options myself whilst in the market for one, cost being a major factor as im a student. really i think in terms of ease of install and ease of delivery and organisation forge is the way to go. you could probably save 100 dollars in sourcing a core and organising piping and whatnot but the time it takes to do that outweighs the 100-200 dollars saved.

IMO go the forge. takes 2-3 hours to install and is a good product.

    Hey mate,

a rear sway will help a little, but springs and coils are the way to go if you have the budget.

Think the whiteline parts numers look right. The 9N and 9N3 (Inc GTI) chassis is the same.

Forge cooler is the easiest option, the guide provided is very detailed and comprehensive, quality kit.

Have you done any changes to anything other than the chip?

Flash's the only thing done at the moment. Besides cosmetic stuff and stereo.

I upgrade my cars every few years so i try to not do silly mods i dont need.

    the plan was:
    APR flash.. done
APR DP.. And they said they have a better gear box mount i should use.
    Forge cooler
    Seat intake.

And thats it. unless theres something that i really should be doing.

So if i spend my money on coilovers am i going to get a better ride? .. i dont really care about a height drop i just want the handling and ride.

If so is there anywhere like repco i can order coilovers as i get a trade discount or is online cheaper anyway? What brands should i be looking at?

Does anyone in australia actually stock the Forge coolers?

    Thanks as always. MArk

In relation to the power, there are lots of little mods that support the tune.

There is a section of the air intake which has been found to be quite restrictive.

Here is a thread on the Seat Air Intake: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=6160
    IMO, definitely worth the $$$.

The Forge TIP is another section of the air intake that people have found to be beneficial: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ight=Forge+TIP

The air filter (panel style) has been replaced by many, K&N seems like a common choice.

Other than those big ones, people change the diverter valve to ensure boost is retained and other valve changes.

In relation to suspension, if you are less concerned about ride height, I'd be looking at new coils and shocks. There are plenty of threads on suspension.

The sways are a good addition, but depends what you are after...

I'm not sure about the gear box mount, but the engine mount (dogbone) and rear control arm bushes have been found to be somewhat limiting and have been replaced by an increasing number of people.

I found the Forge front strut brace (goes between suspension towers) made a big difference just by reducing flex in the chassis.

Personally, I don't think the dump pipe is a good place to spend your money at this time. If you don't want to spend much, a rear sway and the Seat Intake Piping are probably the best places to spend right now as they will give you the biggest change for the least money. Many have used H&R springs with the stock shocks for improved handling, but a few of us have had our shocks deteriorate quite quickly with this setup.

The Polo section of this forum is full of usefull info, have a look at the FAQ and have a look at VWIndahouse's thread on his build to give you some clues as to what can be done. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=33911

Maybe try and get along to one of the regular meets down in VIC, always good to see for yourself and talk face to face.

these are probably the ones youve scene. they say 02 - 06 but they are the part numbers (for the sway bars anyway) . shop around as well i got a better deal with the white line sway bars through repco belive it or not. just walk in with part numbers and theyll sort you out mine took 2 weeks to arive. fmic definatly forge unless youve got some connections with local people , the forge unit comes with detailed instructions and quite a few on here have installed themselves meaning we can help you out also with any queries. as for dp , many have customs here , cant vouch weather there better or same as apr , as ive never had another product installed. hope this helps.

That said, as much as some people do swear by their SEAT intakes, just as many people feel that you can achieve the same by a well placed CAI into a pod filter or similar, plus the CAI/Pod combination often works out cheaper.

That said, I'm not going to open a can of worms here. There are arguments each way as to which is better so have a read, think about what you want, and make up your mind from that.

I do appreciate everyone opinions and help so thanks again. Im not looking at a crazy track car.. ive had many fast cars (im 28 and this is car 14) im just trying to be smart with what i spend and do mods that are worth the money.

Ok so ill order a seat intake
forge Tip ( cant find it on there website )
    forge cooler
diverter valve, do i just get a forge one aswell?
and ill get a kn filter

ill look into a custom dump pipe ..

i think thats as far as i want to go. unless there any other small mods i should be doin??

I'll leave the suspension for now. im happy to do the works if i know im getting it for a reason. all im really trying 2 get rid of is the front end dive on heavy braking and the tire squeal on cornering. just cant find a definitive answer after reading so many different posts.

Again thanks ,Mark ... and i look forward to a melbourne meet.

I'm trying to organise a group buy on the TIP, hold on with that one.

With the FMIC, its easiest to buy direct using 10% discount code (don't personally know what the code is). Best option is to email them and ask if they can assist in getting the price under the 1000 mark to avoid import tax.

Inktake available from Dubaddiction.com.au or PM Dave GTI who has done a few group buys to date.

Diverter: There are a few options. The splitter gives you the option of the blow off, I've got mine plummed back all the time, so I'd be happy to swap it for the APR R1 if you are interested (little cheaper).

The down pipe / dump pipe will give you an extra few kw, but I'd save your money if you are looking at items to leave off your list.

The rear sway does help with the squat, but it won't get rid of it.

noone is right. springs, shocks, coilovers etc are the way to go if you want to get rid of that wobbling feel when attacking a corner at high speed.

a set of good tyres will maintain the grip but it is a bit unnerving when the car starts wobbling.

also, a spring+shock or coilover with a stiffer setup would reduce the amount of dip the rear experiences during hard acceleration - front grip is improved somewhat.
