    Subaru wheels on Polo.

Has anyone tried fitting Subaru (Impreza and Liberty) wheels to a Polo?

Both models of car run a 5 x 100 PCD same as our Polo.

There are two differences is the wheel fitment from the Subaru and VW. The offset which is ET45 compared to our ET35. Using the offset calculator on the 1010tires website (http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp), you only need a 10mm spacer to correct the offset.

The other difference between the two wheel sizes is the Centre Bore according to the info on this forum (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...read.php?t=151).
The Polo has a centre bore of 57mm and Subaru has 56mm. Which is close but may still require a bit of machining to bring it out the extra 1mm.

I have a Subaru aftermarket wheel, on loan from a friend, sitting outside which I am going to test fit to the Polo. I was going to do it today but the weather put me off doing it so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

If its not too much hassle fitting Subaru wheels to a Polo, you have the option from choosing from a wider range of wheels than what is currently available in Australia for the Polo.

Yes, they should fit, although you'll need to watch offset. I think the early GTI wheels had a 42 offset

Ok so I did the test fitting of the WRX wheels on loan from a mate. I had 2 problems with fitting it properly. One of which I was least expecting. The wheel nuts would not fit through the holes on the WRX wheel. So I held the wheel as flush as I possibly could to the rotor and took some pics for future reference.

The other problem I had was that the wheel spokes were a little too close to the caliper. I can not confirm 100% if it would be an issue because as I mentioned earlier I could not bolt up the wheel with the standard wheel studs. I have circled the area where the wheel and caliper may come in conract. (See photo)

The centre bore fit over the Polo easy, in fact it was much larger that the specified size of 56mm as listed in the link above. You will notice from the pics that this is a multi fit wheel hence why the centre bore on the wheel was larger.

The wheel size I used was 17 x 7.5' with an offset of ET47. The wheel had enough clearance from the strut. The wheel only poked out a bit out of the guard, nothing major but a bit too much for my liking since I intend to drop the car around 2'.

I would like to try this again but with a genuine Subaru wheel rather than a aftermarket wheel before I completely dismiss the idea of using Subaru wheels on the Polo.

Crap pictures taken with the phone.

Genuine Subaru wheels can be a little pricey unless your lucky (just like the GTI rims really).

In many cases you are better off looking for something aftermarket which is similar, probably lighter and maybe better built.

Apologies for the MASSIVE thread grave dig - BUT... it seems that factory wheels have a slightly smaller hub 'hole' so won't quite clear the polo hub. I'm looking at getting a set machined out so they will fit (The semi's on them are worth way more than a new set of wheels, plus i think they'll look ok too)

will keep posted on how it goes
