If you want street cred do what Sharkie did and sell your polo and put a deposit on a new R20 then mod the balls off it!

It sounds like you bought a polo for the right reasons but if your always starting threads of this nature and the other about the polo's lack of performance then you bought the wrong car.

However if your plan is to make the polo a ball tearing weapon mate go for it as I'm sure you will have the full support of the worldwide VW community but the street cred you're after will still only come from that same community!

I bought the Jetta because it doesn't attract attention but is sporty in it's nature...in other words stealth. Others in this thread have suggested similar reasons for buying a VW and to suggest we should have bought a 1984 Corona is pretty rich, in fact an insult to many of us.

In summary, you are obviously not happy with your choice of car and are trying to sell it, you started a thread asking if Polo GTIs are quick enough where you continually referred back to high powered cars you previously owned and now you question the "street cred" of the Pog.

Any "cred" you may have had just went out the window! With all due respect, you should sell the car and move on.

    Cheers

Curious, which crowd you trying to get credibility from??

a 300c on 24's with chrome may be cool, yet shouts "I'm compensating". Each to their own.

    Good luck with the sale.

In my opinion, with ANY purchase.. It should be about what you like and what you prefer..

If you're after the acknowledgment of others over your car.. I think you have bigger issues.

I say man up and do what YOU want to do regardless of what others might think (unless it's illegal! haha).

It's cheaper to improve your personality than it is to compensate for the lack of one by buying stuff that you hope everyone else thinks is cool...

I've got a big red van that "looks like Postman Pat's".. Do you think i give a crap about that? Hell no! I like it and that's all that matters!

Personally I feel pretty cool driving my GTI.

Would I take for laps of George st on a Saturday night? No. but then again I don't have a lot of respect for the guys driving bright pink jap cars with custom blue leather interior and rims with rubber so thin they have to go the long way home so they don't fracture the rim.

    Listen to your wife.

You guys have me all wrong.. I love the Polo Gti.. Everycar has its drawbacks. Im just raising some of them and trying to remedy the situation.

Many people on here have the stiupid answer to sell it and move on.. they get all defensive when I say there are drawbacks.

If I had an SS with 400kw I would be saying how much fuel it uses, how unreliable it is, how its not streetable etc etc etc.. How every bogan trys to pinch my rims.

Obviously the Polo Gti has its own strengths and weaknesses..

We can all backslap one another and talk about our strengths or we can consider our weaknesses and any possible remedy.

I think I might keep the Polo Gti, on balance it has way way eway more positives than negatives.

I'm curious to know, what cars apart from exotica, and Euros costing over 70K have cred? Certainly nothing Japanese,Australian,Korean,American

Only one I can think of.............Volkswagen

Maybe the average perception of a VW by an Aussie is that it is not street cred.In Europe they certainly have!!
In the U.K for example if a young kid has a VW he or she will be the envy of their mates for sure.

Remember VW in Australia is a relatively new brand, apart from Beetles, the last ten years has seen VW here go from not much to one of the big car players.Over the next few years as Volkswagen continues to grow in this country and more younger people buy into the brand the image will change dramatically.

A owners of these vehicles in this country we are already ahead in the Cred department, its up to the rest of Australia to catch up,and they will.

good to hear, now go track it

one point is that people that have driving the late model VW's are generally quite impressed with em, it's the people haven't, or those that want the harder performance reasonably priced cars (evo's, or even RenaultSport range) that would laugh at the compromise we've made between performance, build quality and insurance premiums.
