    Strange sound coming from engine

    Hey all,
Last night I noticed a strange whirring sound coming from the front area of the car when the car is rolling. It sounds like the sound of a mountain bike peddling up a hill. I originally thought I had a flat but the pressures are all fine.
It only happens when the car is rolling and doesn't matter if it is in gear or not and with the engine off.
The car only has 26k on the clock.....wheel bearings? CV's? I am stumped...
Any advice is appreciated as I don't really want to go to vw for this (out of warranty)

Is it the cooling fan(s)? Do you hear the sound with the ignition and air conditioning off when the car is cold?

It's def not the fans, the sound of the whirring is directly proportional to the speed of the car, the air con is off.

Could be a brake issue. If the pad is sitting strangely, it could be the friction although the stock pads and rotors are very quiet.

    Any mods?

This may be a long shot, but I had a similar noise from underneath one of my older cars. It would speed up/slow down depending on the speed. Finally looked under the car and found a strip of that plastic reinforcing some boxes have around them. It was lodged in the lower suspension arm and rubbing on the inside of the tyre. Similar to when you stick some card into the spokes of a bike; the faster you go, the more noise it made.

Hope your problem is as simple as this. Good luck...
