Hello. I have done a search but I have not really got any hits on how a stock 06 Polo Gti will respond to a tune such as APR. I am just after a bit of info on whether there is any issues to look out for.
Stock polo doesnt really feel like a turbo charged car.. Power is too linear.
APR gives it a more noticable feeling when turbo comes in.
Car is considerably faster with Chip..
Talking about 0-100km/h in low 6s and quarter mile rund of mid 14s..
One word about APR F-U-N
Response to tune = OMFG - totally different car...able to tussle with the big boys and not get the doors blown off
issues to look out for = thirst for more modification...would recomend suspension upgrade (not necessary, but would make sense) to handle the power increase
no question - DO IT![]()
welcome to the thread meko, the only real problem with getting a chip weather it be apr/giac/custom code/whatever, is the weak clutch. now dont get me wrong the standard clutch is fine on a standard car, however with a chiped car you have to be that little bit more carfull, continual hard launches, ie abuseing the sh#t out of your clutch will kill it relativly quickly. this can be remedyed by updating your clutch to something abit better and more tolerable to your driving habbits. other then that just about everyone on this forum who have driven there polo for 3 years + have not had a problem with chipping them, infact nothing but good results.
Yup I can't agree with Mike more...Definately go for the tune. It was the first thin I did for mine and have never regretted it since. Probably the best bang for your bucks in terms of immediate satisfactionHowever I do warn you, once you get used to the power, you won't wanna turn back because its too much fun. Except on the odd occasion when you get used it and want to remind yourself of the difference it makes by switching it off once in a blue moon. Anyway I wish you all the best and happy motoring

go speak to Guy (APR), i'm pretty sure your local APR dealer can give you a 6hr demo with one of their settings.
Thanks guys for the info. Great forum by the way. I was just wondering if there was any adverse affects after tune, but from the repsonse I can see it is only one. The bank account. I know about the infection of modifing, had that with the last car. Now it is just a matter of organising myself.
Definately no adverse affects but it does expose some weaker points of the car; primarily the suspension and perhaps the clutch. But in terms of performance or reliability I don't think anyone has reported any issues so far. Its a pretty tough engine and even chipping doesn't push it that far to what it is capable of.
