Thread: still losing traction with good tyres...maybe lowering will help??

    Wow, did I hit a nerve or something!

    I have only had good experiences with Continental tyres.
    However I am always open to any suggestions on better or similar quality tyres.

    By the way, nice rims.

    There is no such thing as "European car tyres" or "Tyres designed for european conditions"

    Continentals are no where near as sticky as MOST top model tyres - They are rediculously expensive in some cases for no real reason at all. They do last longer because they are made of a harder rubber = not sticky. (Think taxis that want the hardest rubber they can get so they last longest)

    With that said - Saying continentals would minimise wheel spin on a euro car is absurd, or for that matter that they are safer than his T1-Rs.

    Toyo T1-Rs, Goodyear F1s, Pirelli P.Zero-xxx, Dunlop Sport 9000, Michellin Pilot Sport etc etc - They're all top model tyres that would out brake/handle/accelerate continental sport-contact 2 (What come on the polo gti)

    Glad to hear you have had good experiences with the tyres.
    I guess it depends on what you look for in a tyre.
    Conti's are safe, grippy and from what i experienced very quiet.

    However, when you really lean on them they are a bit soft and can negatively affect handling.

    But im not arguing that they arnt good tyres. Look how many manufacturers use them as standard equipment, obviously says something.

    But the conti csc2 is not a favourite around here. Some of the GTI's including mine came with Dunlop sp sport maxx. Which are german made too, have great grip and a much stiffer sidewall.

    Purely personal though
    GTI. Leather.

    maybe you need a stickier tyre, something in a semi slick sir!
    try a toyo R888 or somthing similar

    no nerve hit hgonops... all good.

    i suppose i just haven't spent much time trying to figure out a clean launch through 1st gear..... something to work on (excuse to spend more time in my car) .

    cheers for the comment on the rims, i like them too. i didn't at first but they have grown on me and in the flesh they really suit the colour coding of the car.

    Toyo T1-R maybe at the top of the Toyo road tyre range but they aren't that highly rated in the scheme of things.

    Dunlop Maxx don't rate highly either in comparison tests.

    I'd go Adrenalins or Precada 2 before even thinking of Toyo tyres.

    CSC2 tyres may not have the best in class dry grip (and they wear fast!!) but they do have consistant feedback and do very well in the wet.

    I got 205/40 17 Michelin Preceda PP2s. They are awesome, I'm glad I took the advice of a few around here suggesting them.only ever spin or slide when I want them to.

    Try wider tyres next.
    I put 225s on my MK4, combined with Dogbone mount, traction is no longer a problem. With 205 I could break traction at 65km in the wet - not anymore.

    quick question on a related topic. whats the widest tyres you can fit on a polo without rubbing?
