    standard Cat internals

Has anyone split open the casings on the standard cat/resonator combo?
Wouldn't mind knowing whats going on between the cat and the resonator underneath the outer skins. In the golf mk4 gti (from pics i've seen) there is a pissy little press bent noodle of a pipe between the two. Is it the same in our car or does the cat taper directly into the resonator without much restriction?? Anyone know what the cell count is?
I'd be confident running a 3in dump into the cat/res and 2.5in out, but not if there is a puny pipe between the two inside the assembly.

the resonator can eaily be bypassed, gains are negligible.
If you want a better cat, I have a 2.5" I bought and never fitted, yours cheap.

Thx for the offer. Yeah my car does have a normal stand alone resonator half way along between the cat and muffler. But from what I can gather the 'cat' is actually a cat & resonator together. That's why the post cat sensor sits just before the second part of the cat assembly body ie between the cat and the resonator. Could be well wrong though!
