    Squeaks and Rattles, argh!

    Hey guys,

Just curious if you guys are as pedantic as me about ridding your car of all the squeaks and rattles you get when driving along with no music playing ...

Ive got 2 rattles coming from my rear, not that loud but they are getting to me now that i've noticed them!

Anybody else squeak and rattle proofed their cars?

do a search mate, it's been discussed in other threads, also outside of the polo part of the forum. Yup, drives most of us nuts.

    Spose its a common problem.

I'll just turn up the music!

Lol. When I lowered mine the whole dash turned into a symphony of noises.

There are some minor fixes around, but to fix mine properly I'd need to remove the whole dash (big jobby).

I have had a recurrent vibration/rattle from new coming from tailgate. Tracked it down to several points where inner plastic trim meets metal. Some strips of sticky felt wrapped around the edge of the trim (half in/half out) so as to add a buffer between meeting surfaces and now quiet.

    Hope this helps...

the real problem with squeaks and rattles is identifying its source. thereafter fixing is usually pretty straight forward.

    a few things to note:
    1. do this with someone else in the car. let them drive and you can listen for the sounds.
    2. remove whatever trim, parts necessary to get as close to the source as possible.
    3. when you refit things, check that you have fitted them according to ELSA Win specifications. some parts have special instructions.
    4. go by process of elimination.

at the very extreme scale of things, you can rig together a small microphone and wire it to a portable playback setup. you can then slot the microphone into small places to listen for sounds. also, use a small pinhole camera to look for parts that are rubbing or hitting each other. it sounds silly but is sometimes the only way to fix these annoying rattles. the dealers can't really help because they don't live with YOUR SPECIFIC car.

I think I have this exact rattle. Any pics you can take of which points you're referring to?

    I also have this problem,
but i drive around with no backseat or anything in it.
so the airvents are rattling at the back like crazy, but thats normal, when i put my seats back they stop doing it.
than there is less air in that area.

other than that there is something that has a klik/klak noise in the left door (driverside)
going to pull back the plastic and take a look at it coming weeks or so.
