Hi there,
I was just wondering if anyone here with a Polo TDI could tell me if you have any speakers in the rear doors, because there doesn't seem to be any in mine.
Cheers,
Jason

well i can fit whatever i like in the front door panels cos i already have modified mine with some MDF spacers to accept my current 6,5" mids - but to answer your question - you cannot fit anything at all without the modifications cos those stock phillips speakers come in a plastic riser thats part of the actual speaker and its pop rivetted in place - to remove those you need to drill the rivets out - and then the actual door skin is too low for speakers (the window will touch the speaker magnets on its way down) - so you need to build some spacers in there - i recommend using MDF for the job - heres a pic of what mine look likeCan the front door panel accommodate 7" drivers without modifying it?
before mounting the spacer onto the door
on the door with speaker monted - note these are my old reference series speakers - i have subsequently upgraded to Q-Lines (no pics of those)
i still also need to do my sound deadening and ive also got some dynaxorb to place behind the speaker drivers - just waiting for some equipment to arrive and im gonna work on the totally new install
I'm using a spacer too for my old car just like yours. But needs to put in either cone or pvc cover at the back to avoid water slips in whenever raining season starts. As for the door trim, do we need to enlarge the speaker cover to fit in 7"? My hands started to get itchy! Hehehe
nice spacer work, from those photo's you provided it look like the actual polo gti door looks 100% identical to the mk4 golf inside door.
hmmm, no wonder many people seem to say just about any parts from your mk4 golf can fit on an new polo gti.

well it isnt much to go to from 6,5" to 7" ...... but having said that - this spacer/speaker combo just about fits - so im not sure - only way i can think of finding out is to do a test fit - i have been trying to think of a way to get the speaker to the ouside skin cos im losing some midrange - kind of make it look like this Mk 5 that i found on an american forum somewhere - this should give you an idea of how to go about it if your speakers dont fit - but this will require lots of fibreglass work and lots of reupholstering - result looks nice though - ive also got some three inch midranges on the way so i might try the three way config you see there - but its gonna take a lot of work to make it look like thisAs for the door trim, do we need to enlarge the speaker cover to fit in 7"? My hands started to get itchy! Hehehe
probably might - but the polo is substantially smaller so even though they look the same they probably measure very different - but nowadays in efforts to cost cut who knows what they use across the board in all the models to save the cashnice spacer work, from those photo's you provided it look like the actual polo gti door looks 100% identical to the mk4 golf inside door.

On the A-pillar, it's easy but lots of work on the door panel, it if it's as big as in the picture, it will be trouble for right-hand drive cars like us as it'll be rubbing with out feet. Still the works done on that car is neatly done.
that mk5 looks like ar$e
imo if you cant hide it, youre not trying hard enough :p
yep you're spot on there... on LHD cars the pedal are more to the inside of the car with accellarator being closest to the centre. driving an LHD car with that setup would be fine as your legs would not rub on the door speaker surrounds. On our RHD cars the pedals are more over to the outside of the car. a setup such as this would be stupid on RHD as you would pretty much have to bend your leg around to get to the accellarator.

1) you are entitled to your opinion - nevertheless i think it looks great - and it works for the principles of car audio sound quality - and the amount of work that went into it is mindboggling
2) not everyone wants or needs an install where you need to hide everything - some of us want to show it off - or look at it and see that it looks great - or even just have it sounding great so we will put it where it works instead of hiding it
3) to me its probably will sound like ar$e if you hide it - and thats why im trying to unhide it and get it to a place where it sounds good
