Spacers for lower offset?

hey guys,

ive cleaned up a set of old wheels i had lying around from my old cars. they are a set of 17x7 et +55 offset. i know it is very high offset, but i would like to run 25mm spacers reducing the offset down to et +30 on the wheels.

tyres that i will be purchasing are a set of 205/40 for the 17x7

will i have any issues in regards to the wheel hitting suspension or any guard damaging? currently lowered approximately 30mm.

any good places to pick up a set of spacers cheap? branded, no branded doesnt really bother me.

any help appreciated!

you're free and clear mate, standard wheels are 7.5" at +35 so you are going narrower and pushing it out more away from the suspension with +30.

the 30mm drop is nothing so don't worry it's only an issue if you are poking like me

I run 8" with +19 gives me 10mm of poke which fouls when the car is fully loaded or I really push a corner.

I'm going to get adaptors made by these guys they make custom spacers too.

yup, you'd want to make sure you wheel studs are suitable for the task. Factory ones won't be. Spacers are illegal I'd thought... make sure the studs are right regardless of legalities though.

Personally, any spacer of more than say a few mm I'd be getting longer studs.

Also don't forget, spacers are illegal without an engineers report. You could potentially void your insurance if you're involved in an accident and the insurance company see's the spacers.

well no had an accident spacers were noticed nothing was done, unless the spacers are a direct result of the accident you'll be fine I'd say.... getting a defect thats another story

and yeah obviously you'll need longer bolts figured that would be a given.

you can also just change to studs & nuts will cost the same.

or if you are really worried about strength you can get h&r one that bolt to the hub then you bolt the wheel to the spacer

yep got a polo 9n3, trying to do as much research as possible and trying to get it done right the first time round, rather than blowing all the dosha on learning the hard way

p.s trying to achieve the same look on the car you posted on the picture thread awhile back!

i wouldnt say the slip on spacers are any safe, would definately prefer the bolt on ones, as they have been used on drift/race cars in the past. however i'd think twice about having them on the car if i was to ever track my polo.

i dont put that many kms on the car so i dont really worry about defects etc also

The black one with the shaved bumper, badgeless grill? thats running 16x9" wheels, and if I remember the offset right it was front +35, back +27, from my calculations nearlly 20mm poke in back and 10mm poke in front.

he was on coils aswell so probably 60-70mm drop all around at least.

you can look up here to figure out what sort of poke or tuck you will get... use 82mm for the distance of the fender from the hub. (I guesstimated that from knowing I have 10-13mm of poke currently).

And just put in the final offset after the spacers into offset section, cos if you put in the offset and then the spacer it doesn't calculate properly.

looks like you'll be 5mm in from the fender so will not have any issues.

At the moment I have 10-13mm poke in the back, on my eights from using a 16mm spacer.

not looking for more on those but the new wheels I've got need adaptors to change the PCD and in turn will give me a very low offset but it's workable.

either going to go

16x8 at +7
or 17x9 at +20

both will give me 25-26mm of poke

so will need some more stretch than 205s i think, but we'll see.


By the way don't feed into the fear mongering as long as the spacers and bolts/studs are good quality you won't have any issues, hell porsches run spacers out of the factory...just buy the H&R stuff.

legality thats another issue altogether though.
