Also note that your insurance will probably not cover you if they find out that you've got spacer installed. This is more of a concern to me than it being illegal.

Can I ask how many VW owners are currently running spacers (and no I'm not a cop)? And I'm also curious how many have been knocked back by the insurance company because of this?
    Current:

    2015 Mk7 Golf R Wolfsburg - Limestone Grey: Stage 2
Gone but not forgotten: 2008 Polo GTI Shadow Blue

I'm of the opinion unless it is the root cause of a crash (ie spacer failure) there is no problem with insurance. Also, if you are not at fault, dont worry about it.

Don't know why they are "illegal", but yes, these and adapters are.

Try Tim @ dubaddiction, i believe he sells 5x100 spacers (BFI brand iirc)

am interesting philosophy schoona, however, I strongly suspect that insurance companies (who may be asked to cough up $$$$ after an accident) will not necessarily agree with you.

its called a technicality, and their logic is that if you had advised them of the spacers, or other mods, they may have decided not to insure you at all, so regardless of whether the accident was actually caused by the spacers or not, they will claim that they wouldnt have insured you and therefore wouldnt be handing of the cash.

you have a 'duty of disclosure' and if you choose not to tell then everything, you run a big risk of having your policy cancelled when you need it most.

I understand since the GFC, insurance companies are being a bit tougher

yeah, i've got 8mm on each side on the front, 11mm on each side on the back.

cant wait till monday when springs in (NOT as a performance increasing measure, but for looks and slightly less body roll). yes yes im aware of mismatching and how it will prove disadvantageous and that im taking a step backwards, but meh, i might almost have poke!!!!!

    hey guy how's it going?

you dont necessarily need the back AND the front. to have the back wheels popped out towards the guard a teensie bit more was cool, and i simply figured it'd be good to do a little bit on the front as well so the wheel stances between front and back didnt look too disparate/ contrasted. i'll dig around but i really dont have many pics of my car over the last almost 2 years ive had it- i'd spent quite a while neglecting it and using it as a daily drive. needless to say, not many tlc days with mini photo shoots afterwards.

to be honest, i never even considered/ wanted spacers at all when i was forming my modest but drawn out list of mods. i got the idea for the first time really when i ssman posted some spacers for sale in the parts section at a really reasonable price for second hand ones.

but then, i saw his car:

and i had to have moar! so i went back.

no photos just yet but im getting 30mm springs next monday, and i'll give her a good waxing etc and post pics up for sure!

thank god for ssman's spacers and being able to see his car in the flesh- the spacers really, really add to the look of the car.

you can increase your track by 70mm on there kits. but alot of money i dont want to go too small and waste money i want to notice a "poke" i was thinking 40mm over all so 20mm on each side

The Phat 5's are an awesome wheels. 17's from memory.

The TT's tend to be a lower offset, so will sit closer to the guard without spacers.

If you are staying with your stock wheels, a bigger spacer is required for the same stance / poke.

Sorry i ment the offset not the actual wheel diamater. Im not a fan of the TT wheels tbh. im guessing finding wheels with a low offset and 5 stud 100pcd is hard.
