Haha, its a ticket holder.
You know that vent looking thing on the opposite side of the radio to the cup holder???
I'm guessing that it's just there to make it look symetrical and it has no function at all.
But if anyone has any other theories, then i would like to hear them!

You slide cards into it....
time to whip out your driver's manual lol
Gee pretty wasteful (another cup holder would be better) IMO.

Infringement holder
Seriously - it's for parking tickets and suchlike, but I certainly wouldn't be leaving one in there in plain sight - even though the Polo's immobilised, it doesn't stop someone having a red hot go at trying to steal it.
As for a second cupholder - I suspect that another holder might foul the indicator lever when popped right out.
I'd wondered about that as well (I dont have a polo so cant RTFM)...
I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!
its for cup holder for left hand side polo~ there are oem right side cup holder available, but it might touch ur left hand when u drive. maybe thats why VAG didnt installthe cup holder on both side?
thats exactly the reason why they didnt put one there - i was thinking of getting one of those opposite side cup holders imported from a left hand drive country - and the salesman said that whilst it was in use how was i going to indicate my lane changing intentions ..... which made a whol load of senseAs for a second cupholder - I suspect that another holder might foul the indicator lever when popped right out.
