    smaller battery advice

    hi guys,
I am looking to replace my battery with a smaller one, so that i will have more space for my air filter....
I was going to get like anthony a fullriver hc28, but noticed that they also have a hc20.
I have tried to search and investigate whethere the smaller hc20 will be ok, but cannot find information on whether it will be ok.
    The hc20 has:
    PHCA: 680A at 80°F (27°C) for 5 secondsPCCA: 230A at 0°F (-18°C)CCA: 310A at 0ºF (-18ºC)CA/MCA: 410A at 32ºF (0ºC)HCA: 300A at 80ºF (27ºC)Reserve capacity: 28 minutesShort circuit current: 800ATerminal hardware torque: 40 in-lbsOperation temperature range: -5°F (-15°C) to 122°F (50°C)

    The hc28 has:
    PHCA: 925A at 80°F (27°C) for 5 secondsCCA: 410A at 0ºF (-18ºC)CA/MCA: 530A at 32ºF (0ºC)HCA: 625A at 80ºF (27ºC)Reserve capacity: 48 minutesShort circuit current: 1300AOperation temperature range: -5°F (-15°C) to 122°F (50°C)

I dont run a big sound system, just the cd front loader and standard speakers. I also dont leave my car for longer than a few days ( 3 or 4) without starting it.

Does anyone have any views of whether the smaller battery will be ok, or if i need to get the larger one....

    Thanks

    Hi Clicht,
I have replaced a standard battery with the Fullriver HC28 for much the same reason, also the price at less than $200.
I have had no dramas with the HC28 (unlike one Odessey I had about the same as the HC20) and was tempted by the smaller HC20 but the battery sales technician recommended HC28. I run a Odessey similar to the HC28 in my Subaru. The HC28 is apparantly rated well for the Polo.

    Cheers Al

If you must, then get HC28 rather than HC20.

The battery is the energy storage. I always look at battery's Ah rating and CCA when choosing the battery. The HC28 has 410 CCA, so you have some hope that it will not die on you in less than 2 years. The HC20 is too small, you wasting your money there.

As transporter said its not worth it. 230CCA vs 410CCA can quite easily mean being able to start your car on a cold day, not even a sub-zero day. That is a sizeable drop in cranking capacity.

I had a problem with my car once and everyone was quick to point the finger and tell my my battery was too small, which it wasn't

All seems to reach ok...but will do final measurements when the battery arrives..as long as the cables will fit on the terminals..would expect so?

I extended the positive and the negative, but my lacation is probably different to yours. I think from memory you will need a new negative.
