    service

I am an owner of polo gti and i am going to have my 30,000 km major service.
Juz wondering is that gd to hv the service done in VW or other service centre will be fine? As the price is a BIG difference, is there any extra services will be provided by VW? Wt do you guys reckon. Give me some opinions please.
    Thanks!!!

Ultratune did my 30k 'logbook' service for $240. VW dealer quoted $650. I have no idea what VW was going to do for the extra $400. They said something about replacing the pollen filter.

From reading the service book, the 30k service is basically an oil and filter change.

would getting ur car serviced at ultra tune and such void your warranty if something major managed happened to become faulty??

as the OP said sometimes the price difference can be ridiculous, but is it true when it comes to resale, servicing at VW will look favourably for the potential buyer...

As long as the service is done by the book by a legit establishment[and I think OE parts are used]its OK warranty-wise.Ultratune etc are ok.
The VW dealer price for 30k is ridiculous.Just had mine done at Mullers for much less, after getting a few quotes off stealers oops dealers.
I don't think it makes one scrap of difference who stamped the book at resale time.Don't think I've ever had anyone even look at the Logbook...
    Cheers

It was a big deal for me. I got mine 2nd hand and the log book was squeaky clean. All VW service, all on time. It won me!

    interesting this thread is here...

i've just taken in my misses' polo yesterday, as it was having some issues with occasionally stalling whilst driving.

we purchased an extended warranty with the car back in '03, so i figured any issues would be sorted.

apparently it appears to be the MAF sensor, and the dealer won't cover it under warranty because

and are you ready for this?

we haven't had it servied at that SPECIFIC vw dealership. When the misses was working in Sydney, she'd have it serviced at the dealer in hornsby... you know... drive down the coast to work, drop off the car, goto work, pick the car up on the way home.

so because of that, warranty was voided.

    blah

    so not impressed.

No way! Based on what grounds? Was that written in your T&C's? If it is, I'd take that to fair trading because that would clearly be either anti competitive behaviour (I work in the Telco industry so I know all about that) and if it's not that would have to be bait advertising.

This stinks, but actually I think this is normal for the dealer special extended warranties. The dealer specific ones are cheaper & often thrown in for a free, and certainly for a reason! Hugely impractical, ties you to one place, guarantees your business for several years... Should be a fair trading issue for sure, but I'm not sure if this has been brought up.

When buying my Honda I paid extra for the Honda level extended warranty; this untied me from the dealer specific thing. They were not keen at all to sell me this $500 Honda warranty, which also included 1 national roadside assist number for the period (VW gives you this for free) - I guess they wanted to tie me in with their own warranty which I could have for free & thus make the bottom line look nicer...

Honda is much cheaper, I use their dealers as I'm happy with the works. VW's $500 quotes are nothing the same... Of course increased intervals will offset it but I don't feel comfortable with 15k intervals anyway, especially for oil.
