Fair enough, it's just that this site sells the intake.... and calls it a TDi hose.

Its called a TDi hose because its standard fitment on a Seat TDi. Both the GTI and TDI Polo uses a smaller one and both benefits from the Seat part.

hey thanks tosspot for the link to that site- i enjoy seeing what websites have to offer in terms of products for sale, as my first and only experience with buying anything online has been a pleasurable one (pair of snowboard pants that would cost 450aud, plus three beanies at 30-40aud each here, shipped from canada in 4 days for less than 200aud). i reckon i will be getting quite a few things for my pug off the net (seat intake, wheels etc).

given the short length of time i had with my last car (vr6), im very apprehensive to do ANYTHING to the car without atleast a strong semblance of confidence that i wont regret it.

i made sure that the pictures looked EXACTLY the same as my intake, before i did anything. once i was confident, snippety snip snip.

you can but you will need to change the battery to get enough airflow for it to be any good.

I know this is bringing up an old subject and all, but can someone tell me:
Fitting the Seat intake pipe is supposed to free up the air restriction right? However, it's still being connected to this piece of plastic (shaneth, hope you don't mind but I used the pic you took of it).
So isn't it the case that this is now the restriction?

Now i'm probably going to get shot down in flames for this haha. However, I think it's a fair enough question. Even when you cut out the flap (which i've done), the air still has to pass through what is still a pretty small hole. I haven't measured the area of that gap yet, but i'll bet a small amount of money that it's about the same size as the standard pipe.

Any thoughts? btw - yes, there are plenty of threads on the Seat pipe, but I didn't find any regarding this particular question.

    Ta,

    hey Mark,

Mate from memory as its a long time since i did it, once the flap is cut out it is roughly the same size as the new pipe or close to it. If you really want i could have a look.

And its not a bad question at all.

once the flap is cut, the hole (as shane said) is very close to the size of the SEAT intake pipe. the standard Polo intake pipe has the mouth of the pipe at that opening diameter (shown in that pic) and then significantly shrinks to quite a thin pipe the rest of the way through. The seat pipe starts at that diameter and opens up a bit wider the whole way through. I would be guessing that the SEAT pipe was designed to go with that plastic funnel and the Polo pipe was designed after, saving money and just using the same funnel.
