no your right only the owner cares about it. as no-one can even see it so what they dont see wont hurt them.
hey guys, im not a polo gti driver but i do have a tdi, and seeing as i dont have my seat intake just yet, i thought it might be interesting to do a "stock intake with flap in VS stock intake with flap cut out" comparision, for anyone who wondered if the cutting the flap made any difference.
once i got the mouth of the thing out, i was surprised to see just how restrictive it was- that flap actually covers half of the intake mouth, which is quite alot.
so i cut it out and went for a drive up along part of the ocean road, and even though i have no technical data to confirm what im saying (just the seat of my pants), i recommend to anyone contemplating it- cut it out, its good.
ive gotten used to my polo tdi by now, and i must say that taking off from a stop is more responsive, the engine seemed to be able to pull past 4200-4300rpm where as before it was pretty useless past 3900rpm or so, and it just sounds and feels like it revs more freely.
now, this might make you guys laugh, but putting my foot down in say, second, before i cut the flap out, i'd get a little nudge in the back as it accelerated, after abit of lag. now, with 50% less restricted air flow, it feels like there is less lag and i get abit more of a pronounced shove in the back.
(i know it sounds funny to say that im getting shoved in the back in a polo tdi, but keep in mind i used to drive a land rover discovery, and so by comparison.........)
those are my thoughts on the whole flap situation. and i agree with some other posters- whats the point of spending $160aud for a seat intake if half the mouth of the intake is still going to be covered over by a piece of plastic that basically prohibits decent air flow?
enjoy...
Thanks for that Buller, just what I needed to push me over the edge and just cut it... something to do when I get home
Thanks for the info. I was considering doing this but wasn't sure if it would be worth it (didn't feel like being the guinea pig ). Now will definately give it a go.
