    ScanGauge II

    Hey,
    Following up on my earlier posts in this thread, my 2nd unit designated for my Polo just arrived @ work. It was ordered Sunday a week ago. Pretty quick delivery; exactly same experience as last time.

    The whole purchase w/delivery etc clocked in at exactly AUD$199.95 on my Mastercard. It was ordered from http://www.scangauge.com - just ignore the bit about them not delivering outside of USA/Canada.

    I'll set it up for my drive home for work, make note of whether there is indeed a proper turbo boost reading and will try to post pictures by tomorrow night.

    Sounds good Funkdancer. Also please tell us if it gives the correct speedo reading as well please. Look forward to seeing what you think as i would be interested if it does.

    First of all, it does not report the boost

    Whilst the MAP figure is appearing in my Euro, it's blanked out in the Polo. Other than that it works very well. The ECU is actually reporting a speed which is 3-4% faster than real; i.e. I had to dial it down by 3-4% in the SG.

    My tyres are around 35-36PSI though, this might have something to do with it. In the Euro at the same PSI however the speed is darned nigh spot on.

    I haven't gotten the good GPS out yet though, so relying on the roadangel at the moment. The Roadangel EVO's GPS is nowhere as good as that of the Garmin. I'm at a -4% correction now and it's probably a toss between that and -3%.

    Fuel usage is reported different; SG2 says it is a bit higher than what the Polo's computer says it is. This might be a function of some conditioning required, I need to tell the SG when I've refueled - which I'll do tonight, and then next week when I refuel again I'll be able to adjust the percentage it is calculating by (the SG will tell you how much fuel it thinks you put in, and then you adjust it up or down - and it will learn from that).

    Very important to always update the SG when refueling, otherwise things related to remaining tank mileage go a bit/completely out of whack.

    Other than that, installation is a complete snap, it blends beautifully into the cockpit, looks awesome with backlighting set to blue. Will have to do something about the cables, at the moment the spare cabling is just sitting bundled up in the long coin/mobile phone tray under the wheel.

    Funkdancer - the reason the MAP figure appears in the Euro and not the Polo is that the polo uses a MAF sensor...

    The Accord Euro use a MAP sensor on the K24 to measure the pressure difference in the intake plunum AFTER the throttle body... The polo on the other hand uses a MAF to meter the airlfow BEFORE the throttle body.

    There are pro's and con's for both systems... i prefer a MAP sensor to a MAF (they tend to be more reliable)... if you want to see boost you will have to tap a gauge into the little line leading to the wastegate

    A gauge would be much more useful anyway, I don't think you should be looking down at a small LCD too much under heavy accelleration.



    Ok, some photos are uploading at the moment, the above is the first (shot with flash). Note that for the other darker shots, if any photographers are here, yep that's some dust on my sensor.

    For normal driving the SG2 lines up perfectly in the middle of the dash LCDs. I only have to lean slightly to either side to see their outputs. As such, it fits better than in my Euro where the info LCD is obscured unless sitting up.

    The data supported in the SG2 are ALL of the modes reported in the v2 manual on http://www.scangauge.com/support/ , or more specifically http://www.scangauge.com/support/pdf...anual_2_51.pdf , EXCEPT for that of MAP and FPR.

    I've quoted the settings in below, both for my own reference and your benefit.

    Fuel-Pressure
    This is the fuel pressure from the fuel pump. Very few vehicles report this.

    GPH LPH
    Gallons-per-Hour, Liters-per-Hour
    Fuel consumption rate in the selected units. This is sensitive to throttle, gear and loading changes.

    IGN
    Ignition timing
    Shows the amount of timing advance (or retard). The more advance there is (or less retard), the better for fuel economy and power. The limit is set by the octane of the fuel, the intake air temperature, and the load on the engine. A lower than normal amount of advance for similar temperature and speed could indicate too low an octane of fuel is being used.

    LOD
    Engine Loading
    This is a percentage of the maximum power available currently being generated. In some vehicles it is the maximum available at the present RPM.

    MPG,KPG,MPL,KPL
    Miles-per-Gallon,Kilometers-per-Gallon,Miles-per-Liter,Kilometers-per-Liter
    Fuel economy in the units selected. This is updated about every 2 seconds (Normal Rate). This means that the fuel economy is for the previous 2 second period. Small changes in throttle position or load will show almost immediate changes in fuel-economy.

    MPH,KPH
    Miles-per-hour,Kilometers-per-Hour
    Speed in the units selected.

    MAP Manifold-Absolute-Pressure
    This indicates the pressure in the intake manifold. It is reported in pounds-per-square-inch (PSI) by default but can be changed to kilo-pascals (KPA) if desired. At sea level, the pressure at wide open throttle can be as high as 15 PSI or 10kPA. If the engine is turbocharged or supercharged, the pressure can be higher than this.

    RPM Revolutions-per-Minute
    The RPM of the engine.

    TPS Throttle-Position-Setting
    In some vehicles, a closed throttle will read 0 and full throttle will read 100. Other vehicles will have a higher value than 0 for a closed throttle and an open throttle value less than 100.

    VLT Battery Voltage
    Normal running battery voltage is between 13 and 15. When the engine is off it should be between 11 and 13. Voltages higher than 15 volts can damage batteries and electrical components. Voltages below 13 when the vehicle is running could indicate poor charging of the battery. Voltage below 11 when the engine is off could indicate a low battery charge or a shorted battery cell.
    I'm gonna watch the F1s now, if anyone wants me to report on certain values please let me know and I'll answer as well as I can. I'll make another post with more shots when they're done.

    Ok, here we go. :) The LCD background colour is programmable, and the blue matches that of the Polo almost to a dot.

    Hope you won't find these too large; hate posting thumbnails when using a good camera. ;)

    nice gauge!
    you cant be defected for steering column mounted gauges or in dash gauges.you can be defected for on top dash mount or pillar mount as you can hit your head in a accident ,im lead to believe from my copper mates.
    love the LED readout!!! keep up the great postings funk!!!
