    Thanks GPK

I really don't think I'll lose any sleep over this, as otherwise just about every free standing sat nav that's ever been sold would result in a defect notice (!). <Insert chuckle sound here>

Anyway the Roadangel is great in that it lets me know about school zones and stuff like that. Red light cameras and speed light cameras are a bonus. I typically don't speed, but I want to make pretty sure that I don't drift over for a +5 kph "money shot".

(If anything I'd like police to default the thousands of drivers who can't be darned to ensure they've got two functional front lights etc...)

EDIT: Kai, geezes, what did you have on your dash that warranted defecting? Sounds to me like a 1 in an million chance thing that won't be motivated by otherwise clean driving. Apropos, I've offset my emissions and have the sticker to prove it.

Bugger it, here's another couple of shots from this Saturday...

This is off the QT site

    Visual display screens
DVD screens, television receivers, visual display units
and so on may be installed in a motor vehicle. No part of
the image on the screen may be visible to the driver
from the normal driving position unless the screen
cannot be operated when the vehicle is moving or it is a
driver’s aid (e.g. in-car navigation). As well, it must not:
    • obscure the driver’s view of the road
    • impede the movement of anyone in the vehicle
    • interfere with occupant restraint systems like head
    restraints, seat belts and airbags
    • increase the likelihood of injury to anyone in
    the vehicle or
    • be fitted if any part of the image on the screen is likely
    to distract another driver.
    Accessory gauges
Any additional internal or external gauges must:
    • not interfere with the field of view of the driver
    • not produce glare to the driver
    • not have the possibility of an oil pressure line, or
similar, breaking with pressurised fluids spraying
    onto the windscreen
    • be fitted in such a way to reduce the risk of injury to
    the vehicle occupants or pedestrians.

Your age and the way you treat the officer also can make you get a defect.trust me ,I KNOW! if I was young and on my "p's" for example ,I wouldnt be driving a hot looking or a boosted car as they attract the wrong attention?!! sounds like the cop was just looking to bust your chops over anything.
is your head going to go through your steering wheel and hit the gauge?or did he mean it will fly off and hit your head? hahahahahahahaha

actually you are right funk! what about all those GPS systems mounted to the windscreen, arent they a defect ,and will fly off in a accident?,knock on wood, but the less hair you have on top of your head and the rounder you are, cops dont look for defects on your machine!!! hehe

Thanks Funk, that's very useful and the pictures are great.

Pity the device can't get more info from the Pog's OBDII port like boost, but that's a VAG issue as I understand it.

As for the police -- this is clearly a driver aid. If anyone is picked up on it, as above, I reckon there's other reasons

I regularly have a Tom Tom mounted, and sometimes a G-Tech...but then I'm an old fart

Hey Funk ... are you still "Carbon Neutral" when your foot is flat to the floor? Or do you have to go plant some trees every time you have a 'spirited' drive?

    Haha

I can do to the speed limit acceleration runs on almost every opportunity* on my commute home (starting when the temp needle is near the middle) and _still_ use less fuel than going soft in a medium sized sedan (e.g. my Accord Euro). The Polo really is frugal. I'll often average 7.7 on my way in to work on the Citylink with a healthy amount of rush hour on each end of the Citylink... Just wonder how much it'd be less than a big 4wd

But yes I added a bit to my KMs to allow for slightly higher than normal small car useage. On the topic of offsetting, does anyone else than me find it funny that Saab are doing a massive thing about going green i.e. they'll offset your first year of emissions??? Now, it cost me $90 to offset two cars and household waste (already on green energy). So offsetting one car would at max be $50. I seriously doubt they'd offset everything that's gone into the production of the car, so wtf is all that about those $50 in a +$30k new car!?!

On the topic of age, I'm in my mid thirties so probably starting to slip out of that "main target group" now. Besides that I'm normally quite polite when talking to anyone of authority, they're just doing their job - on the 1 occasion I got pulled up for lane splitting on my motorbike [unmarked car] in my 5 years of riding, I was let off with a warning...

    * all within reason; am hoping to find a racetrack around September, will be able to drive spirited then.

Refilled today [as I do every Tuesday], the SG "thought" I'd put 10% more fuel then I actually had.
I adjusted the amount and after this it seems to report a more consistent fuel usage.
The device is obviously not as useful as in my Euro where I don't have any fuel computer output, but still I do appreciate the nice extras it brings to the table.

What does it give you extra that the polo trip computer does not?
