    Roof racks?

Has anyone fitted a roof rack to there polo? Im looking at getting one to complete the "Second" look for my pogo and would be handy on the long drives aswell.

this is a timely post... prepare for a rant.

I bought new Rhino racks a fortnight ago for the pog. Went out canoeing last weekend and had a blast (offtopic, hehe), going down the M1 out of brisbane on wednesday night last week in the 110km/h zone at 6.15pm, the rear F'ing rack came off the car, by the time I'd pulled across four lanes of peak hour traffic, there was nothing to be seen... I'm spewing so have rang Rhino to complain and see how we can rectify this. I'm complaining as they were double checked on saturday before putting the canoe's on (by me and a mate), and had only done 50-60kms since - so do not believe I had them fitted incorrectly - also to have been on for a week prior with no issues.

Fortunately, no one was travelling close and I didn't see anyone get cleaned up by it, but went back twice to look for remains and couldn't see anything. Didn't help that the roads were wet and I sure as hell ain't going to risk getting cleaned up for a roof rack.

I will be getting another rear (even if I have to pay - begrudgingly)...

Once I get this issue sorted, I'll also be getting mountain bike racks.

    Factory roof racks

    Hi Guy's
Don't recommend roof racks at all for Polo's or Golf's, all they do is F@#k up the seals on your door and rear windows on Polo's. Had plenty of customers also complain about wind noise after fitting. Put it this way we had alot of problems. Cheers'

I had wind noise too, only between 60-70km/h.

In future I will only ever have them one when the bikes or canoes are on. I perhaps wouldn't have bought the car if I'd have known it'd be a hassle. oh well.

    I too appreciate the input.

    Roof racks

Consider Prorack a NZ product (S-wing Flushbar) check them out at www.roofcarriersystems.com in Melb. They have been in the roof carrying business for at least 30 years that I know of. These bars are very quiet, I have them on my Golf GT Sport TDI and regularly drive hundreds of ks at a time at 100k/hr (at least) with no intrusive noise. They are worth a serious look.

    Site's down...

This isn't what I was hoping to hear though. I was looking at getting some of the roof racks with the mountain bike rig -- mainly because I know that one of these days, I'm going to rip a hole in the back of my seats from the pedals.

But if they mess with the door seals, then I'll just have to be more careful with loading my bike into the boot.

    i hear that, pixl.

all last season i loaded my board into the back seats. i dont like the thought of having to drill into the roof like my friend did (with his mirage coupe aka 2 door lancer).

    Hey

Just got the new VW Magazine today, and on page 57 they have a picture of the Polo GTI fitted with OEM racks...I imagine they would be expensive, but may be worth looking at.
