Anybody try stuffing noise insulation inside wheel wells? The dealer thought most noise came from doors. But it seemes to me from wheel wells.

putting sound deadener will reduce the road noise (not much) plus it add weights to the car . like the previous guy said, getting a set of quiet tyres will help in this case. Then again gti isnt really a luxury quiet car

Turn the music up...I honestly don't understand why people complain about road noise... Any tyre is going to make noise once it is rolling.

The only road noise I get annoyed with is traffic noise coming through the door.

I find myself opening and shutting the driver's side door at least once a week as I am certain that the amount of noise I am hearing must be from the door being ajar, but it does not improve after a sturdy shut. A little frustrating hearing every truck going the opposite direction whoosh by when sitting in traffic on the way to work.

Still, music goes up and it goes away.

    Light cars have less padding.

I almost always drive with the window down, both if I have a hat on.
The glass should be fine, you could pull apart the doors and fill them with sound insulation along with the wheel arches, but you might not get great results.

If you drive the car hard the chassis will start to move around a little (stiffer suspension helps), then the dash talks to you wherever you go...
