The auto on my Polo has been playing up lately,mostly the car is "bucking" and slamming into gear when slowing down and then accelerating. Is there a way to reset or readapt the transmission without the need for vagcom?

I found this and wondering if anyone can confirm this works

Ignition on (not engine)
Gas pedal down all the way for min. of 5 seconds
Ignition off
