rattle when turbo kicks in....

Hi Guys,

Any idea ???
My car is OK at all rev's, only when i put my foot down, and the turbo starts to spool, is there a rattling sound....almost like there is a playing card / even a small marble in the turbine of the turbo , even at 2750rmpm , when the turbo starts to spool ???
any idea's.

Could be turbo mounting bolts come loose and you are hearing the blow between the turbo and manifold.

Could this be the same kind of wastegate rattle that has been affecting cars with the 2.0TSI engine (Golf GTI / Octavia vRS etc) ??

Otherwise, as Gavin has suggested above - check all your turbo bolts (and dump pipe gasket) are in good order and also check your inter cooler hoses for leaks.

Turbo manifold bolts. Nothing serious if this is the case, but a pain to get to. Take it to a mechanic or qualified friend and ask them to check the turbo manifold bolts. There are 3, by the time I noticed a noise on boost, one was gone and one was almost free of the thread.

Thanks guys, I will have to do this in about a week....in the intrim, I am driving under 3k revs/min, so no spooling...driving sloooooowly, which is not so bad given I have just received a fine ....arrggghhh
