If coolant light comes in it is most likely a coolant leak. You won't see any leaking on the floor, but if you get under the car and have a good look at the radiator you should spot it. Get the dealer to look at it regardless (it is a common problem) and at least if they dont find anything they will have it recorded in their system so if it becomes obvious out of warranty you have a leg to stand on.

Happening to me as well. The same symptoms. Radiator light started flashing more and more frequently. Originally happened probably a year ago, but dealer said there was a pressure vacuum... they did something and it fixed it for a couple of month, then started happening again. Didn't think much of it.

Finally, did a check up before warranty ran out at a different dealer, still nothing, but they did replace my radio head unit. Found out about 3 months ago that I need a new radiator, and I'm out of warranty since last August. In the mean time, I've gone through about 2 bottles of coolant... =(

Cygnus - if you have a full dealer service history and noted coolant issues during your warranty period, you may find the dealer will honour the problem, particularly as they are a known problem on the GTI.

    Radiator part number?

Does anyone have the radiator part number for a 2006 polo gti? I'm looking at getting an aftermarket radiator from the U.S.

    Thanks

A dealer spare parts department will be able to advise..

Note that the actual radiator is way less than $300, it's the 4 hoours labour to fit it that is the killer...

Yeah i think i have the same issue.

Coolant light keeps coming on as the level of coolant is dipping below the minimum. My 06 GTI has 55k.

Have gone through a whole bottle of coolant, didn't have much idea what was happening as i had no drips at all, but after reading this thread i think that may have solved the mystery.

So i figure from the other post you are looking at about $700 to replace it? Anyone recommend a good VW mechanic near Wollongong?

    Cheers

After receiving the first batch of new updated radiators not long ago the first unit was installed today. Its very similar in design but the fins are a lot thinner and the crimping where the old radiators leak has been upgraded:
