Quotes on painted side skirts and rear bit

    Hi folks,

Got a quote back on getting my side skirts and rear skirt (black bit) removed, spraypainted and re-attached. 17hrs labour totalling $869 (this would incl me supplying VW POLO front skirt to be painted also.)
They said as they skirts are textured, slighly rough there is a chance of the paint coming off....I know a few dubbers have had this job done.
How does the price look? have you had any paint issues after the job was done?

    Thanks heaps.

when i had my old barina () i had a little prang and while it was in the paintshop i got them to do a full colour code which is a lot more surface area than what we need done (it required full front bar, full rear bar and wheel arches).

i understand that this was a flat colour (not metallic) and that they had the paint set up already cos they had to replace and spray my bonnet.....but they only charged me $200 cash on top of the total repair cost.

this was about 6 years ago now and i still see the car driving around the gold coast with the paint still looking schmik! the plastic parts were also textured and they never sanded them back. you do however, see some cars going around where they've has aftermarket colour coding and the paint is peeling off....it does look sh*t. our plastic parts don't have the same direct sunlight to these cars you see driving around so i don't think we'd have an issue.

i suppose you can sand the parts back yourself but re: cost i would expect to pay between $600-$700, that seems fair to me. nearly $900 with no sanding seems a big rip-off.

Sounds a bit steep to me to, had to redo the whole front bumper of my lancer in metallic least year cos $300 removed and fitted.

I'd think around $600 for sides skirts and the front lip specially if they aren't going to sanded it smooth to begin with.

I'd say go get some more quotes... maybe that's what the markets at now.

Basically its a PITA job for a panel beater to do. They over quote the price so it's worth all the fiddling around.

Simple solution, take the skirts off and then give them to the bodyshop, just get them to do it and refit yourself not that hard.

A panel would normally cost roughly around 200 bucks.

yeah thats right, a WHOLE panel. it seems to me that the above quote would be in-line with what they'd charge for the whole front and rear bumper and side skirts. do they understand that its a small piece of plastic on each panel.

Probably not unless you take it to the panelbeater and show them what you want done

I had a quote for the side skirts and rear valance colour coded at $150 a piece, so $450 all up I guess. I think the money could be better spent elsewhere though. (At least until the car is chipped and suspension upgraded)

yeah that sounds about right. so for $600 you could get the whole car done (front, back and sides). there is one other bit that i think needs doing but would be fiddly, the bottom half and stalk of the side mirrors, and the black triangle part that joins them to the car.

I've wanted to do that from when I got the gloss B pillars back in mid 2006!
