    hey

What i noticed when the GTI was standard was that it really didnt feel turbocharged. It felt much like a bigger engine with alot of torque.

So thats probably why you are asking the question.

The turbo on the GTI (depending on a few things) will generally start to spool up audibly around 1,500 rpm and generally hit full song at around 2,000 untill 4,000ish

In the GTI the sensation on boost is basically a wave of smooth quiet torque

Dont know how else to describe it

to feel when the turbo is kicking in, just put the gear in 4th or 5th around 60km/h and floor it.... you'll see abit of lag, and then the turbo will start spooning up at around 2000rpm and you'll feel the rush in power....

Feel it kick in at ~2000.

If your chipped you feel the same kick at 2000 and a real rush at 3~4000.

Let's take a step back first. What the turbo does is forces more air into the cylindars. Basicly the more air - the bigger the bang. The turbo is driven my your exhaust gasses, so the more air, the bigger the bang, the more exhaust gasses and this cycle just repeats.

So what everyone is saying that from 2000rmp up, you should begin to hear the turbo pushing more air into the motor.

VW's idea of a turbo charged motor is to compliment the engine. VW's have a very smooth torque curve. The more torque you have, the faster the feeling is. If it's not a smooth torque curve it's a feeling that can only be described as being kicked in the butt. One minute your cruising, the next your shoved so quick into the higher rpm range and you take off in a flurry of wheel spin. If it were like that it makes the car not so good for general driving but it's great for racing. VW's tend to lean to the more 'sane' side of the torque curve by the way the ecu controls it. A chip can make it lean to the 'not so sane' side of the torque curve but the still aim to make daily driving a pleasure.

    I hope this helps.

Well you can hear the turbo from full acceleration at 2000rpm. It does have a bit of a kick if you are in 3rd at 1000rpm and nail it until you are at risk of attracting the police.

I find I can hear a loud hiss noise from 2000rpm onwards.
