    Sharkie,

    The original post was this:

"I was reading on another forum about VW Polo GTi's...
Apparently with a tune only they outgun a WRX?
Not off the line but their in gear acceleration is meant to be brutal? They are a 1.8 litre turbo. With chip apparently 152kw and 330nm. In a 1100kg car?
Does anyone know what sort of pace they run? would they run with a WRX?"

So what I take out of this is they(HULK) are asking if a chipped polo will beat a standard wrx in a rolling start.
I think they now know the answer and because they didn't like it, firstly started comparing to tuned STI's over 1/4 mile etc, but have now turned to abuse. That thread isn't so funny anymore time to leave it be......

Do the maths, 330NM 1200kg v 320NM 1430kg ... chipped only Polo will be very competitive with a WRX ... in fact look at the power curve (GTI) for that 330NM and you will see its all there @ 2500rmin and for the WRX 320NM @ 3600rmin.

In any gear the chipped GTI will beat a stock WRX. All the traction does not help 1 bit.

don't forget Neil (GT3) had his Polo when it just had APR V2 dyno'd at 360+Nm.

Ive just read the rexnet thread.

Why dont we compare say from 10km/h to 150km/h on a drag strip... what is the times for that run. side by side rolling start.

So no big launches just rolling start run... im not willing to kill my gearbox.

Geez what an epic thread, makes our forum seems like nobel convention compared to their environment and some of the members there...

That hulk fellow is quite the WRX driver isn't he? I can just imagine him annoyed, beating his head against the computer screen hard enough to knock his white backwards hat clean off his head.
Hahaha he must be related to these white hat wearing folks

Having been part of the WRX/turbo Subaru world for >7 years I did not post much on Rexnet after the first little bit. Has proven handy to buy and sell stuff, but yeah better places around the place to spend lots of time.

I'll do a better intro once my new car gets all sorted, but my last two cars have been a modded Subaru's. A MY05 Forester XT and before that a MY00 WRX. Just organising lease paperwork for a new MY08 Polo GTI.

Not all of us are tossers.

And the fact that a rolling start will negate the big advantage an AWD car has over a FWD car (ie great launch from standstill), and also get the Subie to expose any low rev turbo-lag it may have; this is just a happy coincidence, isn't it ?

A 2.5L Subaru motor with the right turbo on it (not too big) will make a great torque. It all comes back to making a good street setup, it's not all about peak power.
