The problem with potential WRX drivers switching to polos

    Guys,

I have been folowing the rexnet topic about polo V wrx and I was very entertained with it and impressed with Jason's responses, even when provoked.

    http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index...howtopic=99558

However, I think there may be a problem here. Currently we enjoy cheap insurance and anonymity from the boys in blue, but if now all of a sudden Polos start getting used in ram raiding and whatever else bad the wrx is famous for, because they have now discovered even cheaper performance, we'll end up with a bogan car.

    Definitely not what I want.

Don't think you've got any worries on the ram-raiding score, Pogo. Those that perform that kind of operation tend to favour Holdens.

    Welcome to the forum.

Even when I was driving a Subaru, I used to avoid Rexnet exactly because of this kind of thing, as it seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

Because regardless of whether it was true or not, the Rexnet guys would never rate a lowly Polo (with a tune) higher than the mighty WRX!

Heaps of keyboard warrriors over there who spell power with an 'h'? (POWAH! )

    Good thread, though.

    Interesting reading on Rexnet...

I personally have had a run with a slightly modded WRX...sweeping left hander onto the freeway...don't wanna post the results for legal/flame reasons but i was smiling all week

Polo 55.... all i can say is im going to the drags on saturday, with a mate with a mildly tuned STI, maybe rexnet boys may wanna come for a run. Not that i think im going to beat them just interesting to see what they will run when you actually have the cars interests at heart.

There is a thread in the QLD meets section.

Yeah "Rexnet" makes for a pretty amusing read ey! Maybe they should rename the forum "RedneckRex"? lol I think there are a few Rexnet members on there with many, lets say, 'member' size issues! LOL
I've never taken on a WRX to be honest but it does supprise me that the little 'ol polo by all reports seems more than capable of holding its own. Anyway drags are won and lost at the start. Get a good start & its its very hard to catch up. Also doesn't the WRX have a high pressure turbo that doesn't really come in until your RPMS are up around 4000RPM? Thats probably where the Polo gets them. Get in early making it very hard to catch up.

Advantage of a rexy from a standing start is the AWD vs FWD: FWD has its advantages but traction at the start is always an issue if competing on drags.

If insurance, targeting from cops and image wasn't such an issue with them I would have considered a second hand STI a lot more than i did when I bought the GTI.

Agreed. If you have been looking at those recent articles about the ATM bandits, they all seem to be stealing Audi RS4's.

i'm just pouring through that rexnet forum. it's pretty funny seeing a few of the members. a lot of them seem quite rational intelligent kinda people, but....

    hahahahaha. mammoth call.
