    Pricing Query

    Morning,

Test drove an 09 Polo GTI yesterday - what a hoot! Had a grand total of 48kms on it.

Asking price was just north of $27k onroad.

Very new to this - done my research on carsales.com etc but seeking the advice of much more seasoned vw owners.

    Sound like a reasonable deal?

    Thanks in advance.

I suppose there are two points to consider. Firstly, it's in stock right now, you can drive it away today... if you order one it could be months before you see it (depending on colour and options).

Also to compare fairly it's worth checking what (if any options) are on the '09 model. Consider for a moment that a brand spanking new 2010 model is listed at $30,305.90 on road on VW's website. I'm sure you could haggle a little bit and get it for very very near the same price (if not better).

(personally I think the new model looks much better than the old one... so much so I'm considering throwing in my Golf to get one ).

I'd be considering a second hand Polo for about $20k. For this price, they are already chipped and often have some suspension work done.

All depends on what you are after, the new Polo will have a better resale as it appears to more people, where as the 9n3 (2006-2009) has the lovely 1.8T which has tuning potential if you are looking down that path.

    Good luck.

Not really interested in the tuning potential just yet.

Tossing up between the above mentioned (with benefit of warranty) for the extra $$ or an 06 model with 47,000k's on it for about 6k less.

    Does 47,000km less wear & tear + 3yr warranty + 3yrs younger vehicle = $6000?

    Decisions... decisions...

An 06 with no mods should be about 17K. Pricing is a little different in WA, but there are frequently people from this forum selling their cars, tastefully modded and well looked after.

I bought a GTI (not leather) for 20K over a year ago with only 10K Kms on the clock. I understand you may not be interested in modding at this time, but a little extra spent now can save you a few $$$ down the track.

Maybe convince one of the WA Polo guys to give you a ride in their cars, then you will understand why we chip, do the suspension, etc.

Depends what it comes with. With leather option and sunroof, then yes. If it is in stock form, cloth trim and no other options, then the price you should be looking at with 48kms should be around $23.5K - $25K.

I bought mine brand new from QLD with 17kms (IIRC) and bought it for $25K on road with no options - This was in March 2010 and mine is a 2009 model.

Personally, I'd wait for the newer model, but at the end of the day, it's your call. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice so far.

The 09 model is pretty standard from what I can gather - cloth, no sunroof etc so perhaps the price is a little steep?

The 06 is from a private seller:

They are almost as rare as hens teeth it would seem! Guess it is a testament to how good a car it is.

I love my 9n3 polo, but I'd be looking for a fairly serious discount now that they've been superceded. Someone on here bought a new one for $23,888 driveaway a couple of months back. Other than that, as mentioned, second hand ones with not too many k's are a fairly good deal. Also, if you're not looking to modify it, stock for stock the new model will spank the old one
