Hi all,
I just filled up before the inevitable price rise, and noticed my local Caltex/Safeway are now charging a 13c premium for 98RON unleaded on top of the standard advertised ULP price, up from being 11c extra last week and 10c extra a few weeks back.
Is this the same all around, or is this particular servo being dodgy? I know BP put it up to 11c a while back seemingly across the board so I waved goodbye to them.
Is Shell/Coles still only an extra 10c?
I know it's only a few cents here and there, but it certainly feels like those with cars tuned for 98RON petrol are the ones being gouged currently.
Cheers!

OK, so it would seem that they're all 13c then.
And the softcock ACCC tries to tell us there's no collusion going on between these companies...
Thanks for the replies.
Cheers!

Petrol stations pay 27c a L for fuel.
just before the price hike i noticed premium was about a 7c/L over unleaded (i only use BP). a few weeks back as prices started to drop i noticed that BP Ultimate was about 20c/L higher than regular unleaded, that's criminal. it is just to keep the majority happy whilst the rest of us using diesel and premium still have to suffer.
have a look at this thread a few weeks back where this has been discussed - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ighlight=cents

This is simply not true. The retail margin for fuel products are between 0 and 3 c/L for ULP, and around 4 to 9 c/L for PULP, and 98RON. Diesel usually enjoys a margin of around 15 to 18 c/L on account of the lower volume sold.
Check out Terminal Gate Pricing (Wholesale petroleum pricing) here: http://www.fuelwatch.com.au/info/dsp...le_pricing.cfm
Refinery margins however, are usually much MUCH fatter.
As far as i am aware.. They pay 27 cents. Then get charged all the tax and what not ontop of it. Causing it to get higher. But they still have a large profit?
(i'm not entirely sure about what im on about. But that is what ive been told from more then 1 person.
I've heard many many times that the retail margin on fuel is 0-3 cents.
I've said many times in response that that is utter B/S.
NO-ONE in their right mind goes into business knowing there is no gross profit, let alone net profit, and no wages.
The start-up costs of a service station, I imagine, would be more than $1, and the operating costs would also be more than $1 per week.
So, the margin is MUCH MORE than 0-3cents.
