    Pre track day check list?

    Hey guys,

I know a few of you have taken the pog to the track so I wanted to ask those who have what steps you've taken to make sure your car got through at the end of the day.

I know the standard brakes won't last long but which pads/fluid combo would be ideal for the track?

Tyre pressure and all the fluids is the main thing.

The stock brakes are fine if you stop every 10-20 minutes for a break to let them cool down. Just don't do lap after lap killing them. Also, make sure you do an easy lap at the start and end so you can warm them up slowly and cool them down with the air rushing past them.

Using the standard disks, I was pretty happy with Ferodo 2500 pads and Motul RBF 600 fluid.

This stuff isn't really about the car's set up, but important stuff people often forget/leave to the last minute!

Make sure you remove all loose stuff from the car, bags, jumpers, hats, melways etc etc. If you want to save some weight, remove the spare wheel and jack etc etc (dont leave it at home, it might come in handy...) if you're game, get rid of the spare seats too. Many people (beginners) forget this stuff and the marshals generally pic up other unsafe stuff at the inspection.

Make sure everything is done up tight under the bonnet. Spare coolant and oil is also a good idea, as is spare petrol. Fill her up with 98 or 100 if you can find it or octane booster etc etc. the better the petrol the better for the car under the circumstances. Brakes - make sure you warm up and cool em down on the cool down laps as tosspot said. Higher spec brake fluid will help with high temps a bit.

Clothes, make sure you wear appropriate clothing that's comfy and comfy shoes. Energy food might come in handy as the day progresses, also plenty water. racing takes it out of you, even at club/entry level events.

I've not done a track day myself, but been to a few, and picked up a few things here and there. Hope some of it helps! and have fun!

You'll be asked to have long sleeve shirt and long pants, best to be cotton.

Yeah be sure to leave your jack and spare wheel. I had a puncture at Eastern Creek Tues just gone, changed it and was good to keep racing. Get yourself a pressure gauge and a good jack.

When you come back in from your session, don't leave your brakes on, if you need to chock your wheels up to stop it rolling. Also you should leave your engine running for 1 or 2 minutes after your session.

any car is ready for the track, well depends on the condition too lol...

took my echo to wakefield park last year. had a blast with it LOL considering everyone overtook me on the straight.

stock brakes are ok, as long as you take a break. also remember to do couple of laps before stopping the car (cool down lap). ALSO remember NOT to put the handbrake on once you've stopped (brakes need cooling).

    most tracks requires you to:
    - wear long sleeve & pants
    - helmet (you can hire them for $20-50)
    - membership card (wakefield park its around $50 annualy & $100 fee for a track day)

at the end of the day, its all about FUN! so enjoy!
