Possible to change programmable door settings without dealer?

Edit: May have jumped the gun as I found it can be altered with VCDS. Will need to do some further research.

    Hey people,

Would love to be able to change how my cars locking mechanism works. Atm everything locks above 15kph and then requires to key to be removed to auto unlock the doors while the boot remains locked. Would prefer for it to be basically manual (locking using the lock all from inside) locking except for the key buttons.

    TIA

Yes, the VCDS Lite version (paid for, not free) should allow this to be changed. If you can work it out with the free version, i'd love to know how.

If VCDS doesn't tell you what value to change for the functions but will let you at least change the value number I might be able to help out. I would need to know what value you have set and what your car is.

Will let you know. Are those cables off ebay for $10 enough to be able to affect anything? They come with the free version of the software don't they?

I'll fix it for you if you don't mind a ride to the airport over the weekend? Usually the ebay cables have trouble doing much apart from reading and clearing fault codes. They run on old version of the software.

The real thing has the decoder built in and is dead easy to use.

Yup, the ebay cables are designed to run on Windows XP so you need to get updated drivers for them to work. I created a thread in the VCDS section of the forum with a link to a site I found to get the updated drivers. Still, with the free software you can only read and clear codes, and not all of them at that. In theory, buying the lite version, with the ebay cable should enable everything, though VCDS makes it very clear on their website that they'll provide no technical support if not using their cable.

I am on late shift starting at 7 on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday would be best for me though. I can head in half an hour early and meet you at the new Service centre by the International terminal.
