my reply? - Last time you drank a bottle of wine, what was it worth when you pi55ed it down the toilet afterwards? NIL!! you bought it coz you wanted to drink it, not invest it (perhaps excluding an old Penfolds Grange from this argument!)

I'm not worried about the resale amount as much as the sheer erotic pleasure I get from owning it and using it.

true, a bottle of wine costs a lot less, but the principle is the same
This is so true. I've saved hundreds of $$$ being the DD on nights out since I got a car that I love driving. Instead of spending $80+ a weekend on drinks I still go out and spend $10 on soft drink and then drive home, not to mention the saving on cab costs.

i must admit tho, i get a good laugh at say, a toyota camry sportivo, with its body kits and stripes and not much else. Marketed as a sports car, but is still virtually a standard Camry.

This one definitely doest earn a pose over performance vote.

as mentioned earlier a balance of both is my way to go. When you research buying a car look for that balance, then why not keep it all the way. I also believe in maintaining the cars original character, because that what you fell in love with to begin with. About aesthetics id be only looking at the small things that i wish were in the original design. And about performance id like to unleash some more power without swapping every single original part for aftermarket performance. Overall its a beautiful car with lots of power so keeping that balance would be the ideal

Where's the fun in drinking soft drink over booze?

    As Barney (Simpsons) would say:

"Sure, I'm all dizzy and nauseous, but where's the inflated sense of self-esteem?"

I disagree with your simile. The principal is not the same.

This discussion is whether you spent more money/time to modify your Polo AFTER purchase.

When you buy a bottle of wine, you do not modify/enhance it after purchase. You just drink it and (hopefully) enjoy it.

Let's say a car is a necessity for most people (like water is). Modifications/wine are extras.
