    Polo Stereo Advice

I know this is not the Stereo section, but it is specific to Polo.

Hopefully there are some Polo stereo experts out there

I will hopefully have a GTI soon and I have a Alpine IVA-W502E unit

Can someone tell me what this Canbus thing is, and how hard it will be to install this unit?

What do I need, special harness etc ?

Will this fit straight in, seeing as it is a double din?

    Thanks guys and girls

    Hi,

I will have my GTI on thursday (brands spanking new one).
Will be getting the stereo work done a few weeks after that.

AFAIK the professional installers have said they would need a custom facia plate and wireing harness. i would suggest called your local car sound installer and they will be able to get what you need.

Forget the CAN-BUS, grab one of these to connect to the harness in the car. Cut the generic ISO connectors off the opposite end and solder on the Alpine harness. Heat shrink the joints and there you have a custom VW to Alpine adapter The only other connections needed are switched ignition and illumination - I took these from the cigarette lighter.

I've had mine installed for nearly a year this way with zero problems to report.

Found these on ebay, seems to be a difference, this one looks kind of crappy

    And this one looks better

No one changed their unit, standard one looks crap, looks like some kid designed it

    Golf one looks much nicer

Hi guys! Im new to this so bare with me.... But I just took the head unit out my 55 plate polo - easy enough, bought the adaptor to take the original plug to the one that fits aftermarket headunits, I put in a pioneer headunit double din, everything works fine apart from it turning off with the key!!! I know you guys have to discussed this but I'm hoping you can tell me in simple terms what exactly do I have to do, I swapped the red and yellow over and it's still doing it, what do I have to put where to get it to turn off? And should red go to red and yellow go to yellow? thanks!!
