I don't think they sold all that well. It was called the "Polo Classic" and wore the same nose as the 9N Polos (ie, the four lights).

The fact that they were offered only with a manual gearbox (the practice still continues to this day with the TDI and GTI Polos - I honestly think not having an auto TDI is a huge mistake) was a turnoff to many potential buyers.

Honestly, I think the major turnoff was that the Polo Classic was more expensive than its hatchback sibling, and made in China to boot. Rightly or wrongly, "Made in China" has a stigma of cheapness attached to it, so attempting to sell a "Made in China" car at prices suggesting "Made in Germany", even with the VW badge was always going to be a tough ask.

I must say that it reminds me of the old Ventos that were based off the Golf III.

the cordoba is a polo with a boot! saw one in europe with vw polo badging but it was a polo definately.
if the polo was released with auto they would sell hundreds to the grey set!
vw expected to sell alot of these made in china cars, but thank god they god lugged with them.their made in china test failed and hopefully will stop them from offering us that crap again.
