    Polo sedan.

    Hi guys.

Was at Eastwood Sydney today and came across a Polo sedan.
I think it was a previous model as it had the Merc look at the front.
(two large head lights and two small head lights)

I have never seen a sedan before and was wondering if they were
released by VWAUS or is it a private import.
Anyway it had a great rear end.

They were released by VW in oz. They were assembled in the China factory but I am not sure how many they sold. Not many I dont think.
    Cheers, Andrew

    Hi Neil

Polo Classic as it was marketed by VW in 2004/05 sold horribly due to many factors.

The deal with Shanghai Volkswagen was for 3000 to be made over a 5 year period (600 a year).
It was the First ever Chinese manufactured car for a developed RHD country

The Classic was very well equipped with a 1.6L engine, ABS with EBD & 4 airbags etc.
VW could easily have tried to market it but with no Automatic it didn't get on our Elderly Citizens shopping list and those who can't drive a stick.

Due to VWs high cost $23,990 and people suspecting Chinese build quality at that time it failed in our market place.
When they ran them out @ $19,990 it was too late and the venture was stopped.

Don't know how many were sold

    Thanks Ben and others.

The sedan looked good from behind. Went over and had a good look.
Have to say would not have picked it as made in China.
The Quality looked good , owners might think otherwise.
    Neil.
